Only way by learning is doing. Lol.
Take ur 45gal out front. Get mom or dad to trickle the hose. You can get an overflow kit with box and template and bit and bulkhead off amazon or ebay. U will need aquarium silicon...i recommend a box with a lid. Ive drilled 20Ls. 120g 4x2x2...np. u got it! No tempered. Lol. Watch a video online prior of need be but its really easy.

I just got mine 2nd hand and I believe mine is the same as yours. I believe there is sticker for the bottom panel glass which is tempered. So obviously you drilled the back was there any problems?
I ended going with an hob overflow box. I wish I could give you some insight, but I don’t have any experience drilling.
