I live on the gulf coast, summers are crazy hot and humid. I'll go thru almost a gallon of water at work and I also supplement with electrolyte drinkd. Most good electrolyte mixes have alot of same stuff our salt mix have
Does anyone think half teaspoon of good quality synthetic salt mix in 16oz of water would be harmful or beneficial.
I know it's kinda strange thing to ask, and I would probably never do it.
I would save alot of cash though.
Just a crazy thought I had.

I would not. For a couple of reasons. First, aquarium salt mixes are not processed for human consumption. Second, such a small amount would not benefit anything in your body. In larger quantities, that would be way too much salt to consume by mouth, and you'd get dehydrated. Stick to your current regimen ;)

Hard to know for sure. Not likely, but the mixes have "not for human consumption" listed in all caps somewhere on the bucket/box. I would heed this, and stick with things designed for humans. Again, unlikely to be of benefit either.

I just drink water. I figure I get enough electrolytes through my diet. Can't say I drink a gallon of water daily though. Only when I'm outside working in the heat of summer would I consume so much.

I would add a pinch of table salt and a bit of sugar to your water if you're concerned about it.

^This. Drink water. When you're thirsty.

I would add a pinch of table salt and a bit of sugar to your water if you're concerned about it.
^This would make so little difference I would not even recommend it
As a side note, most sports drinks (like Gatorade and Powerade and so on) are overwhelmingly composed of water with a little sugar and flavor and a pinch of electrolytes. The electrolyte thing is used as a marketing strategy mostly. A true electrolyte solution is something like Pedialyte, which is pretty gross IMO. There are countless powder and dissolving tablet mixes with solid quantities of electrolytes as well (great for hangovers! ;) )
Alright...I'm done. No more work, only aquarium talk from here on out :)

I would imagine it tastes yucky. Some salts also included binders you do want to drink.

I say any clear liquid (you put an olive in) would taste better.
