Drop 1.2 report

This drop 1.2 is in a Innovative Marine 40 fusion tank. It is installed in the second chamber of the rear compartment.
Here is the inside on day one October 1st

Question how do you recommend muffling the bubble sound of the water coming out of the top of the drop? Wife would like me to make it as quite as possible. [emoji3]

If you put the top 1/2 inch of the box out of the water, it should remove all bubbles and sound. It's easy to do with the new hangers we include now to put on the air tubing (if you did not get one, I'll mail one).

Yes I got one I have it just below the water level didn't realize you didn't want it to bubble.:) Thanks will do this when I get home.

My drop 1.2 is now a float 1.2. Darn thing won't sink. I made sure all the holes are clear

Well it's a good sign, of lots of algae holding air.

If you don't have small animals that will get inside, you can just enlarge the top hole a bit.

I have not had to clean the glass of algae since November and there is no algae at all in the tank.
It took a few months to get the type of algae in my last image to grow but not its normal to pull that much out of the tank a month.
I have 4 fish in a IM 40 I feed once a day at night. The scrubber just stopped the usual cycle of algae in a new system. This tank has been set up for 18 months now so it's still new. Would not set up a tank without an algae scrubber its just a so easy to use and takes little of my time to care for. Which for me is utter important. Using GFO and other methods of phosphate removal require a constant interaction and replacement of media. So there is a cost in time and money. Which to me is not sustainable.

That's impressive! I've done a bit of preliminary research on algae scrubbers and I like the idea of purchasing a system opposed to going DIY for the appearance factor. Would running GFO in conjunction and or carbon dosing have negative impacts on a scrubber or would the just diminish the effectiveness of it?

If you get the right algae scrubber and balance that with food input and skimmer and water maintenance. GFO and carbon dosing would not be needed. The problem with people using chemicals that are living in a unbalanced biologic tank. An crashes can and do happen do to improper maintenance of that system.

Did raising it .5" above the water eliminate the bubble noise?

Yes it does remove the bubble sound as it let's the air release without being under water.

Good to know thanks! I don't want any percolating sounds in my living room. I'm considering one of these instead of a skimmer on my new Red Sea Reefer Nano.

I wouldn't use this instead of a skimmer as a skimmer pulls out different compounds from the water column.

The Drop is a great small form factor algae scrubber. It fits in the rear of many AIO tanks and you could even use it in a sump of you want to.
