Got a dumb plumbing question: was watching a BRS video on the Triton ATO tank (which I bought) and he attached 2 adapters to the hose - no doubt it's something simple, but what is it? One is right at the pump and the other before the hose leaves the reservoir.

The one at the pump looks like just an adapter to go from the pump outlet size to RO tubing. The one at the reservoir is most likely an anti-siphon.

Do they call that "check valve?"
No, it's just an anti-siphon. Check valves work but these are simpler. Basically it's a straight pipe with a hole in the side that sucks air so when the pump stops, it breaks siphon. It's a little more complex design but that's the basic idea.

I often struggle with plumbing, and I feel your pain trying to make it function properly.

That check valve is more of a stint, in my way of thinking.

And this is my dumb plumbing answer. (great questions aren't dumb.) 🙃

The hose on my tank is not submerged in the tank so I probably don't need a siphon break.

It's more to keep the ATO to stop siphoning.

You mean the water can keep flowing forward even if the top is not submerged and the pump has stopped?

Depending on the water level in the ATO, yes. The pump pushes water through the tubing. When the pump shuts off, if the level in the ATO is higher than the end of the tubing going into the sump, when the pump shuts off the water will continue to siphon until the ATO level is lower than the end of the tubing.

Gotcha. This ATO is in the stand under the tank, so the end of the line is a few feet higher than the source.
