Hello! Is something picking at my Duncan? I’ve had him for years, but he seems to be dying out.

Parameters are good. I confirmed similar numbers at LFS.

As I write this, I saw my clown rip a piece off and spit it out… what the heck!!! I thought it would be the Coral Beauty. Do clowns typically do this to certain corals?

Mine shrivel up when PO4 bottoms out. If you truly do have 0 phosphate you might want to feed them some reef roids or dose phosphates. IN my tank the sweet spot for them to be happy is .04-.08. Any higher or lower and they retract for me.

Ah ok I keep dosing every day with NeoPhos and over feed each day. I feed reef roids weekly.

Did those heads with brown residue die quickly like in 24 hours or less? I had a duncan do that and it was the start of BJD in my tank.

No, it seemed like it took a while for them to die. Wasn’t within 24 hours.
What’s BJD?

Oh ok, it's brown jelly disease. If they deteriorated slowly then it's probably a nutrients issue like stated above with the 0 phosphate.

Tissue recession and bailout is due to stress. Alk approaching high end. other factors would be :
temp high
calcium low
too much light
Too much flow
Salinity low

When reproducing, this may also happen

When to mix up fish meal: When was the last time you tried a different brand of food for your reef?
