I moved my 2 headed Duncan from the sand bed where it had been for about 9 months up to a rock a few weeks ago. Almost immediately both heads divided into 6 each. Since then I haven't seen the tentacles extend very much. Possibly just getting used to their new configuration? And is it normal to divide 6 times?

They might thrive on neglect. Once boating season began I haven't done anything to that aquarium except feed them and do weekly 10% changes, no testing, no supplementing, nada. Everyone's happy, fishies are smiling, the corals are filling in and no algae. Might have stumbled into something here.

I recently purchased a Duncan and after a couple of weeks later it started dividing (one portion, followed by another). I noticed that the divided heads didn't seem to extend quite as far as they did pre-division - after a few weeks they seemed to be back to "normal."
