Tank update this morning, event +48 hours:

I’ve done about 30-ish gallons water change
Running big and small BRS reactors full of carbon.
Changed the filter socks once
All SPS are gone and bleached out
Only my maroon clown and one of two Percula clowns alive
A dead Cardinal showed up in front this morning
Four RBTA survived.
Urchins are losing their spines
Some turbo snails not moving (dead or “hibernating?”)
Hammer and frogspawn look ok
Zoas: a few are starting to open, most are closed up, but look ok
Mushrooms are shriveled, but have color
Duncan looks good
Candy Canes are shriveled, but have color

Yesterday’s tests:
Ph 7.49 to 7.75
Salt 33 to 35
ORP 272 to 295
Temp 78 to 79
ALK: 12.1
Nitrates: 7.0
Should I be testing Nitrites and Ammonia like a cycling tank? I don’t have either of those tests, but Petco might open back up today.

Water is less cloudy today.

I think I still have those kits if petco dose not open, I haven't used them in a long while. I was lucky, I lost about 30 gallons of water and fried the power source on one of my radions. We have a full home back up generator so I was able to get heat and pumps back on fast.

I would definitely be testing ammonia, nitrites is up to you. Reason I would be testing ammonia is in case other things are dead and hiding like the cardinal that showed up at the front. Just my thoughts at least. Sorry for your losses. Your tank was amazing - if you can do it once, you can certainly can do it again!! As a California resident I am dreading this very same issue someday

Petco was still closed today, but the local PetZoo was open so I grabbed a bottle of Seachem Stability bio-starter and an Ammonia test kit.

Ammonia is at 2.0 right now.
Hopefully it won’t get worse before it gets better...

It’s sad to see my once huge birds nest all bleached out.

Another disappointing loss:

I have a frag rack if you want to cut off some good pieces and can put them in my tank until you get stable. I am in wasilla also.

Also the guy that owens a small local online shop has some extra tanks.

Yes clip and frag before it’s totally lost. And don’t remove the “dead pieces” some may come back even when they look like they are totally gone. It just needs one speck deep in the coral for it to come back.

It sucks but when you get stable and rebuild I have some frags to help start back up. Really terrible that you lost fish but it'll be better than before in no time

Thanks! I’ll see what my ammonia does in the next couple days. If it goes up, I might just take you up the offer!

Tested the ammonia just now and it’s 0!!

My zoas are all back to normal, hammer coral and frogspawn are good. Green mushrooms are coming back, but the orange mushroom colony are still shriveled. I’ve got a purple stylo that looks like it survived!

With the extra carbon reactor running my water is crystal clear.

All in all, I’m well pleased with the recovery. Things were pretty bleak for a couple days there...

I plan on waiting a few weeks before restocking fish. Maybe Santa will put some gift cards under the tree!

Glad to hear all is well. I work away a lot on the slope. It sucks not being able to talk my wife through issues. There is a new shop opened and he’s seems good, I am thinking to add eurobracing to my tank, he only lost about 1 gallon to my 30. I sent you a pm a few days ago but not sure if you saw it. Anyhow local support is a great advantage

Cool!

We’ve seen a couple come and go over the years. I keep thinking someone needs to go talk to Tim in Anchorage about opening a franchise or satellite store here in the Valley.

I've thought that too. I work with the guy who's working on opening a store. Hes shooting for chugiak/palmer area. So a little closer for you wasillabillies

I’m glad you are working your way back. I had a similar thing happen to me during hurricane Irma. I’m sure there are many here that can relate.

My mother and friends are still in Anchorage, she said it was intense.
