You can also just buy a USB cable of appropriate length. Doesn't have to be from ecotech. eBay has plenty of them.

You mean a usb cable with a female end ?
Haven't heard of people using them.

It's called a USB extension cable

Yeah, as soon as you mentioned using a ebay usb cable I googled usb female and came up with different places for longer cords.
I guess that would work if you had no other choice.
Cool, learning something new everyday. :)

Haha it will be fun trying to program a light that's 45 feet away from me. :)

Probably not the best situation, but I guess it could be done.
But if you have that laptop coming, you should good to go.

I started out with the GEN1 and upgraded to the GEN3. I have been very happy with the lights and the corals are all doing good. Ecotech's support is also top notch, during normal business hours Mon-Fri.

From time to time I have used an old laptop running Windows XP to control the lights without a problem, so your cousin's laptop should be fine. As others have mentioned it is all cloud based, so all you really need is an Internet connection and a browser other than Internet Explorer.

what coral are you growing, i put up my Radion 2 pro about 7 months ago, ran it under accliamtion for 1 month and had it up for 2 more month and my bowser zoa lost color and turned to a CAR. then i took it down and stored it away. I am thinking of putting it back up but what is the optimal setting?

I'm running a mixed reef, although I don't have any zoas. Here is a link with some recent photos of the coral: https://www.reef2reef.com/forums/large-aquariums-180g/141948-tradewinds-180-a.html

If you like, I could export my graph and sent it to you, granted the settings may need to be tweaked a bit as there are some differences between a gen2 and gen3.
