Electrode Bent on New Milwaukee ORP Controller

I just purchased a Milwaukee ORP Controller. I removed the probe from its protective holder and it looks like the metal tip for the probe is bent. Is this normal?

Update: I was sent a replacement unit. No vent probe issue with the replacement

That’s a good idea. I will do that after I let the current probe sit there for 1-2 weeks since I hear the ORP probes take a while to settle. Current the straight probe is showing 99 mV which seems very low but it has only been installed for 8 hours.

Yes, I have been running ozone for the last 9 months or so. Been running the Poseidon 200 on second lowest setting for an hour every night. I have been using a cheap Chinese multi-parameter monitor which includes ORP. Figured I would upgrade the Milwaukee for flexibility.

My water is very clear but without a reliable ORP monitor there is no easy way to figure out whether the Poseidon 200 is even working (I flushed out the corona discharge chamber for the first time and wanted to make sure I didn’t mess up). I decided to run ozone for 1.5 days straight nonstop and was able to smell the faint smell of ozone when I opened the sump. I then switched it back to only one hour at night! During that time the Chinese ORP probe did go up from the low 200s to the mid 200s but it bounces around constantly so I did not know if that was a real signal or noise. Hence the need for the Milwaukee!

I haven't used ozone in decades but I'd like to play with it a bit to get the water clarity it can give you. I used to use a Sander model 300 and put it into my skimmer, which back then used wooden airstones. I also had to use a bead type air drier in between the air pump and ozone generator. I had a pump diaphram burst on me once and water siphoned back into the ozone generator and not only popped the fuse but ruined the corona discharge tube. After that $150 repair I began to use a 50 cent check valve lol. My ORP would stabilize at about 375 with the ozone generator at 50%, I could get it much higher but then I could smell it in the room. As you have mentioned it does have an odor, I live in Phoenix so I think it smells like the air after a lightning storm.

Than from Tidal gardens uses ozone and he says it made his water so clear it's as if there was no water in the tanks. Keep us posted on your experiences with it.

The Poseidon 200 has been great. I cleaned it for the first time last week after running it for a year. Basically zero residue came out of the corona discharge when inflated it with RODI
which suggests it was spotless. I run the ozone output into a cheap skimmer rather than than my main skimmer since it is not rated for ozone. Running ozone for one hour at 2am I never smelled any ozone.

After cleaning the corona discharge and running it the 3rd lowest setting (rather than the 2nd lowest like I normally do) I still could not smell any ozone checking on it periodically for six hours. I feared I may have busted the unit therefor I left it running. Even after a day I could not smell anything. At around the 1.5 day mark I opened the sump door and smelled ozone. I then reverted to one hour a night. That is not a great way to check if an ozone generator is working so I decided to pick up the Milwaukee!
