Purchased an elegance coral 4 days ago at LFS - it was like 75% expanded at LFS, brought him home and he was grumpy for an hour or two then fully expanded to larger then I saw in store and seemed really happy & enjoyed the copepods/brine shrimp I had fed in my tank. Yesterday I noticed he had what seemed like a little burn mark on a couple of his side peripheral tentacles (closest to the hammer coral I had just moved in next to him) and he was only at like 70-85% extension for the rest of the day. Today he looks horrible, puffed oral disc, partially open/partially closed, looked like he was splitting (bulge in his skeleton beneath where a new oral disc has formed), & what looked like skin recession on his skeleton (red blotchy spots). I moved him down lower (tentacles still sticky) in the tank for less light and turned down my wavemaker/return pump by 25% to reduce flow and he opened up a little bit more but still seems really puffy and contracted.

Other info
New tank 40gal lit by radion xr15 - 3 weeks old (using live rock from old FOWLR tank)
Parameters Temp 25c/77F, Salinity 1.026, ph 8, alk 7.5, calc 400, mag 1200-1300, Ammonia/Nitrite/Phos 0, nitrate 2-5

Pictures

Relatively happy Early Yesterday, fully exposed except maybe on the side of the hammer coral?

You need to up your nitrates and get your phosphates into detectable range. Elegance do better in "dirty" water. Probably dealing with after effects of aggression between your corals and lack of nutrients.

Yeah I have been trying to increase nutrients by overfeeding a bit but I don't want to go hard on it because I'm going through an ugly phase (new tank) as is. Only way to increase nutrients without fully browning out the tank would be increased CUC right?

Yeah one way or another you will still deal with some uglies. Beef up the cleaning crew and stay the course with the heavy feedings is a good idea.
