I really haven't been very active here lately. Not sure if it will change, but thought I'd update my tank.
Well I've had this 300 for almost 2 years now and I was running great there for a while. Then in November 2015 I found a leaking magnet. I tried everything to clean it up but I believe there was just to many heavy metals in the rocks that there was nothing I could do to keep the tank going. I lost a total of 9 fish and countless corals in the 3 months after finding the magnet. Plus the fact that all the fish were constantly battling ich and flukes. So in February I took the tank down and tried to sale it. Here is my old thread
300 gallon peninsula

Well I couldn't sell it fast enough and the wife started tripping about me having 2 large aquariums in the house
So I got tired of hearing it I just reset up the 300. My whole plan when taking down the 300 was to start over with all new live rock and sand and clean every inch of the 300. But after taking the tank down I got discouraged and fell in love this the cube style tank. So I really didn't want to set the 300 back up.
Well I did and couldn't be happier the wife twisted my arm to do so.
So I didn't have to do much to the tank or sump other then clean it really well and gave it a good vinegar bath for a few weeks (The pic above is the tank running during the vinegar bath).
Before breaking down the tank I started acquiring a lot of dry rock and giving it all acid baths to clean the rook good. After the acid I'd let the rock dry a few days then it would go into a 55g drum I filled with fresh salt water. I cured all the rock in the 55g barrel for a few months. I did this by adding mb7 and dead fish from the 300. After about 2 months the rock was live and pretty well seeded.
Here's where the iso2.0 comes in play iso stand for I Started Over lol.
My plans for this tank is mainly sps but I do have a few nems (I love nems).
When setting up I filled to tank 3/4 of the way with fresh DI water and added a bag of salt. I let it mix for a few days with a good heater to get the water to temp. Then after the water was mixed and to proper salinity I added 4 50lb bags of sand and one 5g bucket of live sand I got from a local reef nerd. I let the sand settle for a few days again. Then I added all the live rock from the 55g barrel. Here's what it looked like
I also added all the water from the barrel to the tank. Plus I think another 20gal of fresh made salt water to top it of so I could get the return pump running. I let it sit for a week to see if there was going to be a cycle. But no there was non at all. After a few weeks going by I finally go off my b*** and put all my corals and fish I wanted in the tank.
I also had took a few large rocks from the old rock and did a acid bath on them and cleaned them off and out well and made me this structure
So here is the tank currently today
For equipment
The tank is 300 gallon (96"X24"X30"wide)
The stand and canopy is homemade
The sump is also homemade by me 110 gallon tank converted into a sump.
Return is a reeflo blackfin3600
5 radion gen 1 for lighting (1 is currently off cause I'm waiting on a fan replacement).
Running 2 xf150 gyres in the tank for flow, they are mounted on opposite sides of the overflow box mounted vertically. Like so
The pumps are running alternating gyre mode for 2 min each cycle. The controllers are timed perfectly so that one pump pushes water down one side of the tank while the other pump does nothing. Then after 2 min they switch and the other pump pushes water down the other side and the other pump does nothing. Here is a vid of the flow in the tank
For skimmer I'm running a yca-30 its a beast of a skimmer rated for 1000 gallons. Here's a pic of it with a 2lt of Pepsi Max
Yes that's a 2lt not a 20oz
Then I'm running a cup of bio pellets.
A calcium reactor and a 55watt uv sterilizer. Here's a few pics of my dirty stand
