My friend called tonight and had a leak in his Reefer 170L. He is moving and was going to break down his tank anyways, so he needs me to adopt the fish tomorrow. I'd like advice/suggestions on compatibility with my current fish.

My tank is a RedSea Reefer 250 with 3 fish: small barber goby, medium maroon clown, and medium six line wrasse
His fish: black and white clown, spotted puffer, and sailfin tang

I would most likely want to take the tang and the black/white clown to the LFS, but keep the puffer. He's had the puffer for years and no issues with nipping at coral.

Any tips here on making this acclimation/introduction successful? What order to put them in, etc.? Thank you!

Your maroon will kill the other clown almost guaranteed. The sailfin tang will get too big. So your smart to take them to the LFS or better yet, another hobbiest. Having never kept a puffer, I can not comment on it.

+1 to the sailfin and clown.
Standard drip/temp acclimation, and dump in. Probably best to do at night. I'm willing to bet the Puffer is bigger and probably meaner than all your fish except the maroon, which are built from hate and fueled by rage, so it should be good to go.

Someone more versed on puffers can likely offer more and better information.

Also, if you aren't against a future upgrade, I'd say keep the sailfin. Beauty fish.

@laverda and @Hugh Mann
Thanks guys. Introduced the puffer today at lunch. So far so good. No nipping at corals, he ate mysis well. Maroon, six line wrasse, and barber goby welcoming. The tang and clown are in a 5 gallon bucket with a power head and heater for the next week. Bad winter storm right now so can't leave.
