To remove some fish to decrease bioload and oxygen demand, is good advice, however it may cause and elevate stress on everyone in the tank far more than they already are. It’s a double edged sword at this point. You can physically see your inhabitants so make that choice according to how you see things.

I tested all of the chemicals and everything was as it should be. I thought it was an ammonia spike at first but tested it and it was good. Well, fish have stopped dying and the fish that were on edge are starting to move again. Luckily I only lost 2 firefish gobies:(. I think it was just deoxygenated and just needed a little splash! I will, however, be getting a skimmer as soon as possible!! I don't have a sump or refugium but are starting on one. The only filtration I currently have is a marine power filter and a lot of manual labor every day. I wanted to buy things as I needed them because I have a lot of extra time to spend on the tank right now but will definitely be getting a refugium and skimmer soon!

If your tank has no lid then a quick, corrective measure for now (in addition to all of the advice given to you above) would be to position any powerheads upwards, so that they break the water surface, creating bubbles and oxygenating the tank. If it has a lid, open it and do the same.

Also don't forget you can:

• See if you have any local fish forums or facebook groups in your area - check their "for sale" sections
• Check Craigslist, Offer Up, etc.
• Call your local fish store and see if they have anything used available

Keeping your surface water moving with powerheads from each side colliding in the center will give your fish instant O2 relief, a skimmer helps, but isn’t necessary in a fish only tank

Same pump for both and pinwheel which is key to any skimmer. The best part also is the motor is outside of the tank and out of the water column and won't cause temperature fluctuations and gunk collecting on the motor. Mine is quiet and quality! What’s your tank setup? How old is it? How much live rock? How much flow do you have? What is your bio Load?

I have a 55 gallon mostly fish-only (two corals to get used to them before buying any nice ones). There are two power heads on either end, facing each other and angled up a little. There is 40 lbs of live rock and 40 lbs of live sand. I do not have a sump/refugium but just a filter but will be getting a 15-gallon refugium set up in hopefully the next week or two. The bioload is now not so big. There are only 4 fish left and they are all pretty small other than the powder blue tang (which will be rehomed as soon as he gets to 4 inches!). I am down to a ruby red dragonet, a maroon clownfish, a Rainford's goby, and of course, the powder blue tang. The tank setup is relatively new comparatively speaking. I started this whole thing in December and the tank was set up by January (started doing things in December. I of course did months of research before buying anything but has done freshwater since I was 10 and had a ton of freshwater tanks!). The fish got in at the end of January and I QT most of my fish and took about a week to add all of them.
