I would like a second opinion on where I have my hammer and frogspawn. They started out ok but now they have not grown. It's been months and there only getting smaller.
Here's my tank stats.
120 gallon
24" deep.
For lighting I have four t5 ati bulbs 8" over the water.
Not sure if they are too high in the tank or too low. I have some more live rock on hand I can add.
I can also adjust height of light.
Water parameters are stable .
If you have any thoughts please let me know!

is it the 2 frags on the left rockwork? are they opening fully? if so then i would recommend doing an icp test to see if any trace elements are out of wack. or you can find a lfs that will let you rent a par meter. also how is there flow? hammer and frogspawn dont like a butt ton of flow but you still want them to more or less wave at you.

All of my hammers, and frammers have done really well at the side of a rock face. Flow is really high in my tank but the rock wall protects them but still have random flow.

I have 120 gal with 4 MP 40 and my 3 Hammerhead colonies doing well, one ( different type), not so much. I see only 2 powerheads in your tank. What is your flow? I also have more Live rock and hide them from direct flow as Dbur1014 does.

How old is this tank? I'm predicting PO4=0, NO3=0. Do you check the alkalinity regularly?

did my bi weekly testing just now
gravity is 1.025
ph 8-8.2
temp 79.4
calcium above 520
mag above 1500
alk 8
nitrate 5
phos 0.25
nitrite 0
ammonia 0

as far as filtration, I have a sump with live rock,media, cheato,carbon, bag,purigen bag, filterfloss. I use a sock when I clean the glass.
I do a water change every two weeks. about 15-20 gallons.
you are correct about the powerheads I only have two jebao sow 10 (I think) besides my return pump running at 45%. I have the powerheads running at 100% random flow on one side and 75% on the other. they are 3 inches from the surface so i have some water agitation on I will get a film on top of the water. dont run skimmer.

Cal seems high, I don't believe that would effect hammers, someone correct me if I'm wrong. More important what test kit are you using?

I was using red sea but ran out . I just used an api test kit for calc. it possibly could be wrong.

I'm surprised that everyone is pointing at parameters and no one has asked about par and flow.

From my experience euphyllia are not concerned with exacting trace elements or nutrients in the water column. That's why they're touted to be a beginners coral.

The biggest issue for me has always been flow and light. They don't respond well to getting beat up by flow, and they tend to retreat when they are getting too much light.

My suggestion is to borrow a par meter and get a good sense of how many photons they're getting and watch the flow of their polyps to see if you need to turn down, redirect, change output of the flow.

And once you determine par values you can also play with light schedules. Perhaps just for testing purposes cut back on your photo period or intensity (if possible, t5s don't really give you those options). Perhaps raising your light fixture further off the tank might help if intensity is the issue.

Most of the parameters look OK. They like dirty water but PO4 a bit high. You might want to try to get it down to at least 0.1. I don't think they are getting too much light 24" under 200 watts of T5. Maybe tank is still too young for euphyllia.

I have them in a gentle random sway and feed the tank reef chili and seacham reef plus for aminos and vitamin supplement. Now they are extending twice what they were before. I don't test for nutrients at all. I run cal 450 mag 1350, alk 8, 1.025. lights are 6 t5s . The sump has socks, skimmer, refuge. The skimmer has a CO2 scrubber pH is nailed at 8.3. my refuge lights run counter to my display. I have an auto top off keeping salinity stable. My euphyllia have never been happier. I'm just letting you know how it got mine heathy . Hope that helps

This photo is 1hour after lights on. I run 2 blue+ 7to 1 all light , 3 blue+ 1 coral+ 1 atintik one 6500k from 1to 6 then back to 2 blue+ until 7pm
