Ever feel heart broken about a fish?

I took a huma trigger in after he all of a sudden decided not to be friends with his tank mates anymore. After a nitemare of a time catching him out of my 75, I took him to the LFS where they put him in a little cube. I swear he was looking at me going"what the f$*k bro?" Anyway, I left with my trigger and a 10 gallon to hold him till
I found a suitable home. Since then I do a lot more research before buying animals.

Sad to say I lost my favorite fish ... a dwarf Fu ManChu lionfish on May 16, Monday after work :cry:!! It took me a while to train Mr Fu to eat and it started off with live Ghost shrimps (not recommended for long term feeding though) and thereafter with Krill. I'd suspect it to be old age as he has been with me for many years. Everyone in my family felt sad and missed his unique appeal. He's so friendly that I would have no problem moving this around in my/his tank and what's more he would move aside for me to do my stuff as well!

He would approach me every two days begging to be fed and just about a week ago he wasn't interested in the food being offered. Usually he would swallow the food so fast it's almost like a vacuum suction. Here's a recent picture of Mr. Fu ... :cry:

Sorry for the loss, cool fish!

Mine was actually my Goldfish I had for 10 years, he was one of 2 of the first fish I had ever owned. He managed to jump out of the 100g tank he was in :(

I think most of us do.

I had a beautiful atlantic blue tang back in the day, and was incredibly broken up when it died. I also lost a lionfish to night time aggression from a grouper...that was almost worse.

Its good to see this attitude in the hobby, especially since most of these fish are being wild caught. Buy small and grow them up guys...

I have seen these in divers den...you might want to go and request that they get another...I have never had them fail me whenever I request a fish it is in DD about a month later, and usually more than one.

My Lyretail Anthias disappeared over a year ago. A few weeks ago when I was dismantling my tank, I moved the stand, and I found him wedged between the stand the wall. There was enough left to ID him.

Most definitely, because you raise them like your own.
Next day they belly up, it's difficult at first, but once you're desensitized it doesn't hurt as bad until the cost of the fish is in the hundreds range.

I feel really bad if I lose a fish! A year or so ago I had some anthias in qt and when it became apparent they weren't going to pull through I was really bummed, so much so my girlfriend spent the evening telling me she could see how much I cared for my fish and it couldn't possibly do anything more to save them. Awhile back I had an order from DD arrive DOA (I think FedEx froze them)...same girlfriend was worried I was going to punch a FedEx employee.

I was totally torn up when my 180 crashed last year and lost my 6" Achilles Tang that I had for over 2 years. I searched for almost 3 years before I found one that was grown from a 1" baby to almost 3" and had no ich issues, so was elated when I finally found one from a fellow reefer who was moving out of the area. That fish was the centerpiece to my setup then all in one stormy night the power went off while asleep and woke the next morning to find a almost completely dead reef. Lost all SPS and over 30 fish. The only one I truly missed was the Achilles tang even though monetarily I lost approx 5 grand in corals and fish, that 200.00 fish was the hardest to swallow, so I completely understand your dilemma

Got stung? Most tangs are able to walk away with the damage on their skins.
Must have been an RBTA the size of Canada!

Yes i miss my midas blenny i used to tell him it was time to go to bed and he would back in his hole and i would turn the lights off (special bond) rip little guy

i have a midas blenny. i have had her for a little under a month. she eats fine, and is seemingly okay, but she hangs out in the corner, and never perches anymore. When i would visit her at the pet store, she was always perching and happy. Now she seems content, but i am worried that she is sick or something. do you have any thoughts/ experience with this. She also never swims to the other side of the tank, and just stays squished against the corner of the glass (near the heater). I have a whisper filtration system which is for 20-30 gals. My tank however, is only 20 gal. I also purchased an aerator and have rearranged the tank, but she still will not perch. ...?:squigglemouth:

I still get sad thinking about my blue tang Dory that passed away on Christmas Eve (2010) :(. Really sad holiday for me. I had that fish when it was a tiny baby. It definitely hurt and made me cry my butt off when she passed. She was very special and really had a personality of her own. I buried her in our garden and made a little heart shaped memorial where she is buried. I still miss her and think of her.

I'm sorry for the losses everyone has went through and some people may not understand why we feel this emotional towards our fish but I'm glad to know that there are a lot of reefers who genuinely care for them just like we do for our dogs,cats,etc..
