There are a lot of sales going on lately, I would check out marketplace on here and see if you can scoop something! But I started with trumpets, blastos, and mushrooms.. not sure what looks cool to you but I got those as a WYSIWYG for $1 but everyones budget is different, you can get a variety of things at LFS or online deals, grow something cool from a frag.
 
Welcome to the reef. I actually get a more rewarding feeling buying tiny $10 frags from my LFS and seeing them grow out versus spending more on larger size frags.

Like that little Goldenrod frag at the top just right of the orange setosa. It has now doubled in size and was only $10.
