Experience with "maricultured/wild" sticks

I wanted to know if anyone has had any experience with "maricultured/wild" acros.

I found someone locally that sold me a couple of good size colonies. He tells me they're "maricultured" which I believe means they're grown in the ocean instead of coming off a wild reef?

Anyways, has anyone had success with these maricultured or wild acros?

For me the maricultured stuff isn't great. I probably have a 75% survival rate when I bring mariculture colonies in. They seem to do better than stuff that was cut off the reef, but still not great.
I usually see the most losses around the 3-4 week mark. Like they are stressed, but alive, and then one morning it's a bunch of white branches

I'd say 75% is a decent number. My first 2 I got at least 4 months back. One is super happy since day 1, the other is hard to tell not a whole lot of PE but I have seen some encrusting on the tile. These were from a LFS.

These newer ones I started getting from this guy haven't been in the tank for more than a month. So far they look very happy. Except for one, again not much PE but that could just be the type of acro am I right?

Have you noticed the color of your colonies change after a while in your tank? The reason I ask is because I haven’t noticed any color changing in my older colonies. If they keep this same coloration I would be happy.

Only after a while did some of the colors change. I'd say 6 months and longer. And it was the more dull colored ones getting better coloring in them.

I've had a couple colonies turn brown, but they came back after a while.

I have had very good success with them once they make it past 2 weeks. I have found they don’t travel all that great. I’ve watched a bunch of podcasts that discuss this. I’m going to be firing up an observation tank for coral. I think dipping these pieces that are already stressed is part of the problem. One of my imported pieces has grown really nicely. It’s about 6-7 across and has been under 800+ par for over a year. It’s just starting to bleach. So, I’m not sure what’s up with that.

Ive brought in several mariculture pieces and I have had good luck with all of them. A couple of the really nice Tenuis didn’t make it but I believe that was because of issues with the system and not the corals fault. The colonies Ive moved to the main system are doing very well. Here is a pic of my oldest colony. It’s about 10 months old, grows like a weed and has great coloration. It also takes trimming very well and goes right back to shooting new branches. I hope all of my Mari’s do this well over time….

Here is my Mari that is starting to lose its color. I’m going to have to move it today I think. Polyps are out but not what it was like 12-18 months ago. Use to be a fuzzy log like a Millie.

I’ve had a few mariculture colony’s as well as frags. They take 6+ months to see full potential but really they are typically high ends lives that are grown in the ocean. Most likely they will be stunners when fully acclimated.
Now most importantly you need to cut off the bases and than dip. Than inspect closely for Any types of pests

lol, I think it’s more actually. It could be that it is dead center under a halide bulb. I’ve been squeezing more out of my lighting the last 90 days. I’m maxed out on all the output with Radions, so I’ve started extending. I’m at 9 or 9.5 hours full spectrum now. This last little “nudge” is proving to be about the limit for some things. I’m having to swamp a low boy out to get LPS out of this system now. It’s an amazing to me the fine lines you can find.

Thats some serious par. I don’t go much above 400 if at all. Bad things happen too easily for me when I crank up the par. I seem to still get really good coloration so I don’t fret about it.

There isn’t much sun tan lotion available currently. 550-6 in the sand. Hopefully that and perhaps close proximity. We shall see.

One of my fav mari before and after. Not really much different than any Acropora IME. They need balanced nutrients, mature biome and stability.
