Pic of the return side and lights from the couch.
I have the 9430 sitting on a 3" stand. Water level will be 8" in the sump. 5" depth is perfect for the 9430.
A4R will be in the 5L simplicity reservoir.
Kalk will be in the 6 gallon advanced acrylic ato reservoir.
Guy comming today so we can get the tank in place.

Ushio 10K and edge bars
The bars help the yellow look of the 10K
With the edge bars at 75% par is 250 on the edges.

Radium 20k has a real nice look.
Halide is 12" from the surface and the system is 17" deep.

250 around the edge with the edge bars. The edge brightens the tank noticeably when the halide is on. It was a good choice to fill in the 36×36 area.
Not much heat from this fixture.
Quite a different look between the 2 systems with the 20k.
My 170 has a much whiter look.

I like the Radium so much better.
Yea I think I will start with the Radium. I have several 20K Hamiltons to try also.
I will retest all bulbs when I get the live rock in for reference before I decide which one to use.
Going to get a few 14K also.
I have 3 more inches of vertical adjustment so I will test at 14" also.

Can you get Pheonix anymore or are they too blue for your liking?

It's great to see that you are going with a mh. My first tank (2010) started with an ATI 4 bulb T5 but I quickly shifted to a 14k phoenix bulb. It was a great color.

I ran Phoenix 14K's on my old 120.
They are not made anymore.
Phoenix 14K were quite white.
My old 120 running them.
I have never ran a 20K halide so stay tuned.

My first reef tank in 1989 had a 175 watt MH pendant. I ran halides forever.
Never say never as I said I will never run halides again.
After 5 years on leds this should be fun.

14" from the surface
10K ushio with edge @ 50%.
The 14k edge blends the 10k pretty well at 50%.
36" edge would have cleaned up the front and rear where you can see some of the 10k yellow look.

I was setting up my table for early pepper seedlings. I have a 400 watt 7200k bulb I have used before.
That got me thinking of the 7K 600's I ran years back.
I picked up 5 of these to try.
Same brand but not the big bulb type like I have.
The 7200k is whiter than the Ushio 10K so we will see what it does when it gets here in a few days. Only $19 a piece!

Went to lfs today and picked up 13lbs of rock from the Bin.
2 rocks were in hypo salinity and 1 I pulled from an established old sump.
No light but had a big piece of yellow sponge. Also a shrimp.with one big claw. I removed it to my 13.
The 10K Ushios's color looks good with the edge at 50%.
Halide will be on for 3 hrs to start and edge bars will run 8hrs.

Should be picking up some tank breakdown rock next week from a very established system.

That's nice nice rock. I can't find anything half that nice locally.
The one piece with the sponge is live. The other 2 are not but were at one time I was told. Most of the rest of the rock was white but old dead live rock.

The one with the sponge is nice. I don't know if you said already, but what is going into this system?
