After more research with the help of AI , the megachrome bulbs should be driven by HQI magnetic ballast (not the M135) , that giessmann sales at their shop.

Accordingly to giessmann, this HQI ballast will give the crisp white will blue Ray light .

I will test it in next month , will publish pictures and PAR readings .

What hqi ballast?
M135 & 155 are interchangeable pulse start magnetic ballasts.

The 400 watt hqi ballasts they sold in the US were 430 watt HPS ballasts. They were close to the european, hqi, higher watt ballast, and are an S51 ballast.
Think I will pick one up and test it on the killawatt meter with the few euro bulbs I have.

Also picked up a superimposed ignitor and will convert it when it arrives.

I think that's very kind of you. I wish more people were like this. I don't charge either. Me and a few friends do a lot of trading. We don't charge each other, regardless of what's being traded. Those $500 pencil nubs you talked about really boil my blood. I really hope things turn around in regards to pricing. With the amount of aqua/mariculture you would think prices would come down. Unfortunately, it seems like greed is winning out again. By the way, I love your threads. Your tanks are stunning, I wish you were closer so I could come pick your brain.

All frags are free. Its funny as people are almost embarrassed that they are not trading or paying. The person left $40 even when I said no thanks.

I wanted to try the Giesemann 14.5K but can not find them in the US. If you know of a euro source let me know.
I have 2 cases of euro bulbs, and always looking for more.
I will try the GM 12.5K when I get the ballast converted.
I will test watts with the S51 before and after converting.
I also picked up 5 BLV 6.5K's

Yea I get ya. I went in to buy some snails. 2 months ago they were buy 5 for $3.50 a piece, now $8.99 a piece.

The 10k bulbs graphs really steal the show in my opionion!

Look at how much area under the curve there is from violet all the way into the cyan spectrum and the amount of far red light is nothing to laugh at either.

Seeing these charts makes it clear to me why this spectrum grows coral so well!

I am putting together a s51 ballast with the superimposed ignitor so I can run the euro bulbs. The 10K and 12.5 K Gieseman, I marked it wrong, should look whiter at the higher ignitor wattage.

That's will be very interesting to see those EURO bulbs runs with the HQI magnetic ballasts !!

Pithos crab this morning.
I added the CRT and it climbed the acro and was reaching out into the water.
I also took out the Ushio 20K and put the Giesemann 12.5K in its place. I will run it for 10 days and evaluate the color.and.get some par readings. Will run it on SL setting pf 445 watts until I get the S51 done.
System will be 4 months in 1 week.

Ok today I swapped the 20K for the Giesemann 12.5.
When I ran it before it was only on the 400 setting and was quite yellow.
This is on SL.
This has only been on for 1/2 hour but it reminds me of my old 120 with de 250 Phoenix 14K's.
Will see what it looks like after 100hr burn in.
Picked up another 150 par.
Its 350 on the edges now.
Was 500 par with the 20K

Par is 600 with just the 12.K at center and 300+ on the edge.
I adjusted the edge to 80% white and 50% blue.
The 4 white leds per bar really kill the yellow look.
Edges where the frag racks are par is 400.
Front drop down 200.
I tried it with the edge bars off but to yellow for my taste.
This looks good with no yellowing.

The Giesemann 12.5 has more yellow than the Ushio 10K. It may burn in whiter but? I may run 1 in the garage and see if it changes.
The Ushio 20K is in now. Not as bright as the Hamilton and less par.

All are powered using the Lumatek ballast on SL setting.
