Got today the new Lumatek electronic ballast's , the only purpose that I bought thoes ballats is to operate the Aqua bright solutions MH 400W bulbs , because they will not work at optimal with the HQI ballasts .

By the way , if I will run the halides for only 6 hours each day ,will it give the bulb more life span ? Let's say 1.5 year instead 1 year ?

Nice. Mine pull 445 watts on SL setting.
Do you know how many watts the HQI ballast is pulling?

Im at 6 hrs also. I plan to run for 2 years before changing bulbs. I have gone 6 months and 1.5 years in the past with no noticable difference in output.
6hrs a day is only a little over 2000 hrs of use.

About the HQI ballast I don't know yet because didn't got them (they still is shipping to my country).

And that's great news about the 6 hours per day !

That's means , that I have 40 new bulbs ,and that's will be good supply for the next 30 years...

In that case ,I will order another 30 T5 bulbs , so in total I will have 80 T5 bulbs that will have to replace every year

Cool. Let me know when you get the hqi. Im curious as to how many watts it pulls. Should have the hybrid ballast running this weekend to compare.

Waiting for the next shipment....
I'm stocking up 400W bulbs meanwhile.

All bulbs are 400W SE , at 10,000K and 14,000K versions.
I don't like the blueish bulbs.

also ,i have 35 new T5 bulbs (mixture of ATI blue plus and giessmann super actinic .

The giessmann spectra have 2×400W MH and 4×54W T5 slots.

The goal is 60 bulbs , For at least 30 years of happy reefing 😎
Bulbs are giessmann and aqua bright solutions.

I Wish that I Had the M59 at 220-240V at 60Hz frequency! !

After researching , I understood that the USHIO 400W bulbs 10,000k needs the M59 ...

If anyone knows wherever I Can find this M59 version I Will be very happy ! I really want to order and try the USHIO 10,000K bulbs.

Meanwhile I Will be using Lumatek
electronic ballast for the ABS bulbs, And HQI ballasts for giessmann bulbs.

I think every reefer should try MH for his reef tank !

Happy reefing everyone 😎

Thanks man !
My mistake...its this automated keyboard 😛
Something I did not know about US vs euro ballasts requirements, thanks.
Guess I should check my m59 kits, I have 2 kits. One assembled but now not sure its a 50hz but it fired the bulb.
I was going to put the S51 together but I am waiting for the S51 ballast to arrive. I can just change the ignitor then.
I have a M59 grow ballast but its MH and I dont want to take it apart.
It will be interesting to see the S51 modified. From what I read this is what a 400 watt hqi ballast is.

Got it!
Well my boxed 59 is 60h, go figure. I have a 50/50 chance the one I built is 50hz, lol. Going to take apart now and check, lol.
Looks like I need to order the correct one and hopefully not 2.

If you have M59 that works on 50Hz I will buy it from you !

Funny.
I buy 2 M59's in the US and they are both 60hz. Faster cycling rate might not matter. A 50hz M59 might flicker in europe.
Looks like I will be buying 2 more of the correct ones off ebay.
I wonder why they would even have them in the US.
Im now going to take apart a watt halide grow ballast and check it, stay tuned, lol.
It has never been open.
