I have 2 clowns called fancy ocellaris...They started off like normal but the black trace was very dark, they started getting black spots and now they are black with an orange face and belly

I have a pair of ocellaris and the female has black spots. I determined that she was "hosting" in a big Duncan colony and is getting stung. A number of people on another site suggested and supported that idea.

Anybody ever heard of such?

Mine get the black spots when the rub up against Zoa's. The Zoa's are by the anemone, and they sometimes come into contact with them.

Kelby-Fancy Ocellaris are the same thins as normal ocellaris, just have some of the black mixed in or have some extra black color to them.

Im sure this is a hypermelonizaion or it got stung,it happens all the time!

There is some info on Clownfish HyperMelanization on this link under Environmental Disorders.
Marine Fish Diseases and Parasites

Some people believe that the stinging can cause problems for the clownfish. Sometimes they become immune to it, but some poeple think that it can cause pain to the clownfish and stress and recommend removing the coral that is causing the black spots.

My ocellaris started hosting an elephant mushroom and were getting black spots on them, but they eventually adapted to it and no longer have any black spots. I think I did add some stress guard to the tank to help with their slime coat.

My Duncans have two people both trying to get here to lay claim to them! I was just worried that the spots would be permanent. Thought I was going to have to spray paint her black!
