I’m trying to work on taking actinic pictures since I so rarely do so. Here’s my first attempt. I’ll keep working on it. It’s not so much capturing a nice image but making sure color is correct as well. A lot can go crazy when you’re working with all blue and sometimes you can fool yourself as a photographer into thinking that overly colored up pic you took is accurate. ;)

The actinic pictures are always fun to look at but you have given me a new appreciation for what these corals can look like under daylights. Greatly appreciate the integrity you show with your pictures and its a big reason why I will be placing many future orders once my new build is ready!

I see way to many actinic shots where colors completely shift. Green becomes red and purple becomes orange, it's bizarre. I don't mind the saturation increase with blue pics, but when colors starting changing completely it's gone too far.

Fully agreed. They made up colors that don’t exist with orange filters. If I see a yellow acro in a blue picture... I’m like...

Now if I see a yellow acro in full spectrum light... I’m like...

Peng’s HOTO
208825A5-735D-4A27-90BD-FECF72F41B9A.jpeg

Those HOTO look pretty good. I remember the first pics of HOTO looked rediculous. They were so bright blue and so much nicer than an OT. But then people started listing them for sale on the forum and the pics always looked...less amazing. In all honesty, is it worth the hype? Is it better, brighter, and more blue than an OT?

Your pic is probably the most accurate I've seen of HOTO.

Thanks! When I first got a piece a couple years ago, it was pretty crazy blue. I’m not judging this one yet until it’s had some time in my system. It was under MHs and came in about 80% green, believe it or not... Only the tips were blue... but it was super healthy. Give it a couple months in my system and I’ll judge then.

Here’s an old pic of the frag I got a couple years back. It was pretty epic blue. That’s it in front of my Oregon tort colony. I would say a better blue than Oregon if I was being honest.

Call me crazy but I actually prefer the daylight shot. You have some of the best daylight shots out there.

Thanks bud!

I wanted to get more adept at blue shots because there is also a large portion of the reefing community that prefers their tank under blues. While that isn’t my preference, I figured letting people see what the same acros look like under blues as well would be helpful for them too. I’m talking color correct blues... not the type where greens magically all become yellow and saturation falls off the slider.

This piece is hypnotizing in person. It is a Malaysian acro... almost looks like a raspberry flavored shortcake.

ORA Bellina is a rare ORA piece that they actually don’t even have anymore. They lost it some years back. It’s super sensitive but when happy, the contrast of purple and green can’t be beat. To those wondering if it’s a purple bonsai, no, the growth form is very different. More delicate bushy appearance then the more solid and branching look of the purple bonsai.

Don't get me wrong. Those blue shots are SEXY as well! Be careful though because you are going to have to start doing double the work to make us all happy now!

It’s pretty close. The way it tables actually reminds me of my FarmerTy Blue CottonCandy. The purple matches up well and the tabling form.

The ORA Bellina is actually more blue than purple in real life.
