tough competition in here! Here is a neat shot of my giant metallic mushroom under all blue ReefBrite LED strip. probably around 6-8" round and growing :) shot with a D3100 and a 90m Tamron Macro which my wife got me for Christmas :)

Could you please take the time out and post a fw things for me the settings and the PP you did. I would guess a lower APP and 100ISO but how do you get that three dimmensional feel to it almost. It that stacking?

I'll show how green I am on photography - what is APP and stacking?

looking at the EXIF data looks like ISO400. surprised at the depth of field the picture has with an F-stop of f/16 on a 180mm lens. Even more suprised that the flash was used...are you shooting with a flash mounted over the tank (guessing based off the lack of glare)?

# Lens F-Number / F-Stop = 16/1 ===> Æ’/16
# Exposure Program = manual control (1)
# ISO Speed Ratings = 400
Shutter Speed (Exposure Time) = 1/64 second
Aperture = Æ’/16
# Exposure Bias (EV) = 0/1 ===> 0
# Flash = Flash fired, compulsory flash mode
# Focal Length = 180/1 mm ===> 180 mm

much appreciate the compliment. I like your tubeworm shot - those are really hard - water has to be super still and any passing fish will throw the shot.

I got the camera for fathers day and the macro lens for Christmas. I'm learning slowly as I go! The picture I posted was the first time going beyond color balancing - there is a rock to the side and another coral which were distracting - took a few _hours_ in Photoshop to figure out how to make them go away!

So, is the category softcoral, the way reefers call them, or technically "soft' coral.... basically anything with no skeleton?

is a tube anemone not considered a soft coral? cause it live in the tube but doesnt need it...

wow, very impressive! the picture is too large :( use your favorite photo editor, or try something that can process RAW images. I saw RawTherapee in action last weekend and it looked pretty nice: Download RawTherapee

regardless of editor, somewhere there is a resize - select maintain ratio (fixed ratio or something to the effect), for units select pixels, and set the width to 800. then save as.

App is your aperture or your F-stop, which his is 16. 16 looks off to me I would think the whole thing would be in focus at 16 even though he is shooting macro. Which makes me think maybe this was done with more a HDR technique.

looking at it again the depth of field isn't as large as I through it was, I must have been swept away by the sharpness!

I need to read up on this stacking - sounds neat!

Mimic, to my knowledge, a tube anemone is not a coral, so your shot, which is very nice, would not qualify this month. SD, help me understand your question and how it relates to the parameters I defined for this competition. Is there an option I left out?
