I just picked up two really small frogspawn heads, and I'm wondering if I could/should feed them, and if so, what? Would small pieces of shrimp work? Cooked or uncooked?
:squigglemouth:
Thanks!

Uncooked finely chopped shrimp would be ok or you could just buy some frozen mysis shrimp from your LFS.

Anna,

You can feed them but it is not at all a requirement. If you have a really small frogspawn I would wait until you can see the opening of the mouth and judge your feeding size against that. They will eat almost anything you feed them, but just make sure it can fit in the mouth. One item that I like are tiny sinking pellets that I feed my fish. It makes it easy to drop on the head, and they are small enough for the frogspawn to easily consume.

There's a type of freshwater mysis on the market that has unbelievable amount of protein called P.E. Mysis that's an extremely good supplement for corals and fish both. (it is a little pricier than regular mysis but i haven't spoken to a single person who wasnt satisfied with the results)

I have had my frogspawn a year. Have broke it in half about 6 months ago to make some room. I have never fed it. I can not get it to each. I have shut the pumps off for 30 mins and covered it with mysis, plankton, ect. Nothing. Turn the pumps back on and it all blows right off. I have never even seen it open it mouths. But mine LOVES light. The more light it gets the bigger it puffs up.

I have never seen one eat either. It does stick there tentacles but then they let go after a short time.

Yeah the food does not really even stick to them and they never go back in. My frogspawn stays puffed up even with the lights off. Not puffed up real big but never closes all the way.

I cant feed the frogspawn, the hammer, or my torch. I think they are all in the same family, but I could be wrong.

What I've found to be the best food for corals, especially euphyllias, is cyclopeeze. I just target feed them and my tank, and shut the filter off for a little while while leaving the powerheads running. The cyclopeeze is so small that practically any size mouth on any coral will be able to ingest it. Try it out. It's the only thing I feed my corals with, and my fish love it too. They think it's a treat when they get to snack on what the corals don't grab up!

i put a mixture of scallops, shrimp, clam, squid, and whatever else i find on sale at the supermarket in a food processor and then flatten it out in baggies and freeze it. i feed this to the fish too.
sometimes i add frozen cyclo-peeze to the mix, or rinsed formula b possibly, but i try to stay away from the frozen foods at the lfs. they are dirty.
i have noticed more euphyllia eat than don't, but there are occasional colonies that won't accept food.
i haven't figured out why this is.
