I bought my tank used at my lfs. It came with a canister filter that was also used but in good condition. Can I test it first like in my laundry tub? Before I go get saltwater etc. I want to make sure it works good before I set up the tank. So if it’s not working well I can buy a new one. Thoughts?

Sure fire it up with a 5 gallon bucket of rodi. Only rodi water touches my equipment. Canister filters aren't the best for saltwater but doable.
