Hey i’ve been reading all over about cleaning filter socks. Is there any other options to clean socks besides rinsing and putting them in the washer with bleach. My Wife will not allow me to put filter socks in washer machine.

Currently I just have been rinsing them outside with the hose with a high pressure nozzle and dipping them in Roi water after. But with more research, I’m reading that is important to use bleach to kill bacteria ect.

worried if i use bleach and don’t use the washer i won’t be able to get enough bleach out of the sock by hand.

Does anyone have any practices they to wash filter socks that don’t include a washer.

Thought about buying a pressure washed? But still issue with getting extra Bacteria out

Thank for the input reefers!

I've been using a pressure washer for years... it's pretty easy. My system is to let a wet filter sock dry out ... i let thise pile up (i have about 25 so i can do one big batch when needed) and then, a day before i clean them, soak in warm water overnight in a 5g bucket to loosen any dirt. I then turn them inside out and let them soak again for a few hours..... I power wash them inside out and then, turn them right side out and wash the outside. I let them dry for a day and they are great. Some people put some bleach in with the soak but i don't find this necessary.
Been doing it this way for 5 years. I used to have to do it a lot more but for one of my tanks i was able to install a RS ReefMat (1200) - this was a huge gain as now i only change the Reef Matt fleece 1x every 6 weeks or so. I don't have space in my other tank to install one or i would.

You could get disposable reef diapers or filter cups with floss. Or just not use any mechanical filtration other than a skimmer. (thats what I am doing now and did it years ago on my reef too)
