I made my sump out of a 55Gal tank i had. I made holders for the filter socks and have a sock for each overflow. Myquestion is, For those of you who use filter socks, how often do you have to clean them or change them out.?

I have to clean or change mine out every 10 to 14 days. And was wondering what Others are doing with this type of filtration. I noticed i was starting to get a little hair algea and dont know if its because of the trapped nitrates or phosphates in the bag. Any advise or suggestions are appriciated, thx

I try to change mine every week. I have a few of them and when a few get dirty I wash them in the washing machine and reuse them

how are yall changing every week...........i use a mix of precision marine/marinedepot 200 micron/berlin filter sock100 micron and at most it lasts 4 days.........on a 50 gallon tank.....

Never thought of using the washing machin. I can hear it now the yelling from the wife hahaha

I have some soaking in bleach right now. I really gotta redo my sump for easier access if im gonna replace them that often LOL. BUt i guess its the safest way to keep nitrates and phosphates from building. And thanks to all who have given some advise. appreciate it.

I have to change some of mine (finer) every 2-3 days but rarely ever leave one in over 4-5 days. turn em inside out and throw em in the washing machine. they seem to wash better when I throw an old towel in with them but make sure it is an old towel that you wash without soap in it.

I change mine every 4 days or so. they overflow after that. I throw them in the washing machine inside out with a little bleach. Use them once they are dry.

change them out every 2 or 3 days and wash with a little bleach in washing machine

That's what I have been doing for several years... Change them twice weekly or immediately if they start to flow out the top...

To clean, I use 1 cup regular chlorine bleach (no additives, no perfumes) to the delicate cycle of our front loading washing machine. At the end of that cycle, I run a second short cycle using just plain water. I air dry the socks and they're ready to use again. I do a week's worth of socks in each load - usually about 10 to12.

JME.
