its biting at rocks but its not eating the food i offer. though it is a very new fish

Some species of filefish bite at rocks to hold onto them (weird, I know!). Or, your fish may be biting at rocks to see if there is anything edible. Still, it should be eating food that you offer it if it is otherwise healthy.

I can see the fin damage, but it doesn't look infected to me. Getting the fish feeding is important though....

What foods have you tried so far?

Can you get live adult brine shrimp? That works really well as a starter food for many fish....

How large is the fish?

Some filefish species only feed on corals and benthic invertebrate growth like sponges. I’ve not worked with this species, so maybe that’s the issue?

Sorry to hear. Yes, turning red or pink can be a sign of a bacterial infection. Luckily, those bacteria are not likely to cause disease in other healthy fish.
