First ICP Test Result

So I received the results form my first ICP and I have a couple of questions. As per the analysis, there is elevated Tin, Copper, Zinc, and Chromium. I have checked my TDS and it comes out at 0. All the pumps and magnets used in the system look like the are in good condition. The question I have is that I have been using KZ Spongepower and am wondering would that have any link to the elevated levels? If not, what do you guys think could be other reasons why. The report advises to carry out (6) 15% water changes over 6 weeks and to use Detox. If I use detox, wouldn’t that remove the metals anyhow?

As far as the copper goes, it’s pretty confusing because all of my inverts are alive and doing their thing. Shouldn’t they be dead if there is detectable levels?

I was also confused about the MG; in the analysis it looks like it is in the green but in the recommendations, it is advising to dose it.

I'd do large water changes to start. I doubt the tests are wrong. You need to rethink everything. Even your salt mix could be the source of contamination. I couldn't believe the test's I got back when either but they were right. I ended up having some corroded equipment.

Don't worry about the fine tuning for now. My tank always tests low for Iodine, Strontium, and Boron.

Thanks for the input. I decided to look at my optical sensors. The magnets were fine but I found one of the sensors looking rusty. I am not sure if it cracked somehow and water entered it or what. Seems like it could be a possibility on a contamination source. But do you think one little optical sensor could raise levels like that?

Yeah, good catch! Anything that looks like rust will do it. Remember we are talking about infinitesimally small amounts. Also, check all the hardware around the tank. Get rid of anything that looks like galvanized or plated steel, copper, or bronze, and replace it with stainless steel and plastic. You want nothing close to the tank that can corrode and eventually flake off and fall in.

Thanks for your advice! I honestly wasn’t expecting that but I decided to do a thorough look at all pieces of equipment that come into contact with water and that’s how I found it.

I have done a couple of water changes and have dosed detox. Hopefully things will be fine. On a positive note, all inverts seem happy so that is a good thing!
