This is my first post but have been looking around for quite a while.

I will be starting my first reef soon: 90 gallon aquarium with overflow and will have a sump. I plan for a mixed aquarium, will start with soft corals and fish and will likely transition to trying some LPS in time. I really do like the look at the negative space Aquascape, but honestly care just as much if not more about the fish being comfortable. I started my scape without a specific plan and definitely have more of a negative space feel than I initially intended.

Thoughts and opinions (suggestions and concerns specifically are wanted) would be appreciated. Thanks.

Your aquascape looks good! Just make sure it's not right up against the glass as this will make it impossible to clean those areas (I've done this before).

Corals will fill your negative space quickly — especially fast growing soft corals. So if you think you have too much space, you probably have it right. If you think you have it right, you probably need more space.

Your setup looks good but, without the tank, it’s impossible to gauge the vertical. I would aim to have most of the rock terminate below the halfway point up the tank but with a few rocks that extend higher up. You’ll appreciate having a variety of heights to mount corals. Different species have different light needs and the easiest way to give two corals in the same tank different light exposure is by moving them up or down.

Looks good, bit of advise. Get yourself a couple of drill bits and drill holes for all your frag plugs now before they go in the tank. Use some morter or epoxy to make the area where the plug meets the rock flat. This way you won't need to glue them in place. If for some reason you need to relocate them just pull them out of one hole and into the next they go.
