can I add a 3” bicolor goatfish to the display?
He’s in qt, and healthy. Just don’t know if I should wait longer for him to grow. Would prefer to get him in before I go back to school.
Tank size: 240 gallons
Stock list is:

16” blue spot ribbontail ray
14” epaulette shark
12” hifin snapper (softy)
8” bird wrasse
6” magnificent foxface
5” polleni grouper
5” blue throat trigger
8” naso tang
7” blackshoulder tang
5” powder blue tang
4” purple tang

For anyone who has seen my previous threads. I did end up rehoming about 10 fish, due to wanting an easier tank to maintain.

Still a lot of fish. But no I would not add that fish to your tank at all regardless of how big it is, they are such easy prey for any of your fish. You put it in that tank at all its probably going to be a meal for someone rather quickly. Your tangs are the only fish in there that would not try to eat him at some point regardless of how big you let it get before moving it over. I learned that the hard way with a good size goatfish that was lunch within an hour of being in the tank. That just isnt a fish that should go with any of your fish besides the foxface and tangs. Keep in mind you have 98% predatory fish, small and peaceful fish are not really an option for your tank, sorry to say. This stuff is why I rehomed all predators except for my morays in my system so I could have more fun fish. My two cents

What ate yours, eel? That’s a big fish to take down

Just let him out. Fed everyone heavy before. 60 seconds in the tank, but so far nobody’s giving him a hard time. The grouper, bird wrasse, ray, have all acknowledged him. Waiting for the rest of the predators to

This whole time I was eyeballing sizes. The goatfish is only 1/2” smaller than grouper. And a little bit thinner. Polleni grouper’s are naturally not as bulky as one like a minautus or blue spot grouper.

Hopefully it goes well. My grouper has tried to eat fish the same size her. Thats why she has been rehomed.

Couple hours now. Snapper had some aggression at first, but not anymore. Goatfish is eating very well now, groupers kinda being a dick when the goatfish goes near his cave but nothing he can’t handle.

I personally would not add anymore fish and would remove some of them including the ray and the shark! But if you aren’t going to listen to the advice/compatibility on here or on Facebook then good luck. The fish should always come first!

In the end of the day it’s my tank. It feels as if people take offense when I don’t follow their advice.

I agree the fish should come first, which is exactly why I rehomed like 10 in the last couple months.

The goatfish made it the night, he’s gonna be fine.

GL, I would not have added it if it were me.
I’ve seen him interact with each fish now, powder blue tangs sorta stressing him out-bicolor isn’t used to fish that active. No aggression anymore from the grouper.

I watched him sit on the shark lol

How is this goatfish doing?
He did great for a while. During tank maintenance a few months back I spooked him, he jumped behind the tank, he lived a few days after that but with very clear brain damage and ended up passing. The shark has grown since, so I would def try this again just need to find one around 5-6” now. Thought you might find it cool, I have a 3” clownfish that’s been with these guys (18” epaulette shark, 6” Polleni grouper, 14” Hifin snapper, 18” stingray) for about 2 months now, zero issues
