So, I'm sitting at my desk, and hear a splash... uh oh.

I get up and see water dripping from the light fixture. First thing I do is look completely around the tank, to make sure there isn't a fish on the carpet. Nope, no fish on the carpet, but I can't find my Solon Fairy Wrasse. Ahhh, there it is, in the left hand overflow. So, I get my step stool and pulling the durso out, careful with the net, not to let the wrasse go down the drain. Scoop it out and put it back in the display, WHERE IT BELONGS!!

So, for the next hour, I'm keeping an eye on the tank, watching for the wrasse to make an appearance, to make sure it isn't injured. Still haven't seen it. While watching, I notice that the Filefish is not out. It's ALWAYS OUT. It camoflages quite well, so maybe I'm just missing it. After spending a good 30 minutes looking for it, and not seeing it, I look in both overflows. Sure enough, it's in the OTHER overflow. DUMB FISH!! I just hope, in the 30 minutes or so, that the filefish was in the overflow, it didn't FORGET that it doesn't like Zoanthids, so far!!

Filefish is swimming around the display, as if nothing happened. Still no sign of the Wrasse. I imagine it'll come out when I feed the tank, here in a bit.

If I had overflow covers, the fish would have flopped around on it, until they hit the carpet. Unless I found them soon enough, they'd be dead. Fishing fish out of the overflows isn't that difficult. Pull the Durso standpipe and net it out.

ok then, sounds like someone needs a net top for their tank. While unsightly, if you really care for your fish they are well worth it.

It is something I've considered. In about 6 years, I've had 5 tanks, all without covers. I've had 3 carpet surfers, in that time. 2 were 6 Lined Wrasses, 1 a 4 Lined Wrasse. That is 3 too many. It is a concern, but something I deal with.

That's what I just heard... My buddy Rick just bought a pair said he kept hearing this noise and looks at the tank and the male flame was bouncing off the net top and did it so many times it knocked him out and he died...

My twinspot goby jumpped into my overflow and rode the piping down. I thought he died but then after 3 months saw him swimming alive and well in the sump. He was feeding off food that went through the overflow.

Also my regal has jumpped a few times making me thing he will break the T-5 lamps... Stupid Fish is right.

I have heard about it many times that some fish try to jump out because of stray voltage. So if you have jumpers other than the obvious wrasses check your in tank voltage
