Depending on how low the temp is, floating could be a big swing. I've had most fish come in around 70 degrees. 70 to 78 over 30 minutes is a big jump. I'd be prepared to lower the temp of the QT.

Also this is a really good talk if you have time to watch

I always match salinity, float for 30 minutes, strain and dump.

The only fish I ever lost was belly up in the bag before I opened it.

Match salinity to the expected shipping water, temp acclimate (float the bags) and "dump". Since I started doing it this way I have lost zero fish. If your QT is a little lower salinity than the shipping water I wouldn't even change it. Downward salinity change is not very stressful. Since yours is a little higher, I would lower it to at least 1.018.

Another vote for match salinity and transfer fish after temp acclimation and as soon as you open the bag.

I hope they come soon! You are in for a long night. :(

After you've had some sleep let us know how it went!

Well I'll pretty much be matching temp and adding them to the QT so shouldn't take long. I've got the salinity down to between 1.018 and 19.

I would remove them from the bag immediately with just a quick salinity adjustment in the QT, if needed. I gave up acclimating years ago when I saw how much ammonia was in the bag upon arrival. You're trying to avoid the stress of not acclimating? Sitting in ammonia is just as stressful.... and the damage can be permanent.

Match temp and dump them in is my vote. Even if you are 1.017 to 1.020, it will be safer. I usually top off the QT with saltwater to slowly bring it up to 1.026 which matches the display.

IMO, going from 1.017 to 1.020 will be easier on them then the drip accumulation due to ammonia build up. If the bags are cold, watch the bucket or QT temperature, it can drop pretty quickly, but in the end, that might be a benefit for you.

Hope they arrive soon and work fast when they do!

So who's for drip acclimating and who's for matching and dumping?
I drip (kind of) I use my turkey baster to keep putting tank water in every 10 minutes or so for at least an hour. I have had stuff survive a weekend layover but also lost stuff in the same shipment (part of a replacement CUC), in the north so right now is not the time to have delayed shipments, hope things turn out ok or turned out ok, haven't gotten through all the posts yet.

Still, that is a lot of fish. You will need to monitor for aggression and observe for health issues. I could easily see you having to move fish from tank to tank until you resolve compatibility/aggression issues.
Even with your awesome QT setup, 32 fish at once will be a challenge!

Hoping you get the results you are looking for!

Well most of the fish are little fish to get some movement in the tank.
