Just got this wrasse (melanarius, probably spelled wrong) yesterday. It’s in qt with 2 baseless and a file fish. I don’t think it’s looking so hot. Any ideas on what it may be and what treatment I should do? Sorry, there’s a lot of coralline growth that I probably should scrape off.

Hello,

Sorry to see, I’d maybe put something between him and other fish and treat for bacterial infections. How did it look prior to bringing him home?

He looked great yesterday. He was in my frag tank with a new file fish and basselet. They’re all brand new and haven’t been nipping. I took him out and put him in a hospital tank. Wondering what the best treatment is.

I bet its the Basslet. I had a Black Cap and Carpenters get into it over a sleeping spot. The Black Cap ripped his fins up pretty good.

I'd separate them, and treat with Triple Sulfa or Sulfaplex to help heal the damaged fins.

Sorry to see this. I have some NLS probiotic food that absolutely aided in the recovery of our watchman. Glad you caught it quickly!

Going well.how are you dear?

Just dosed the hospital tank with metroplex. All the fish stores are closed and that was all petco had that I thought would be helpful. I’ll order something better and hope he holds on until it come in.

if the bad delete were picking on anything, I would have thought it was the file fish. Well. Hopefully they’ll calm down and the wrasse will heal up now that he’s separated.

I’ll see if I can get some of that. He looked so bad earlier I thought for sure he was going to die any minute. But he hasn’t. Hopefully he pulls through. I hate feeling like I killed an animal.

In suspecting an aggression issue and not illness. I would net the basslet and see if behavior changes. Add garlic to its’ food 2x per week.
Does it have adequate hiding places and sand to burrow in? Can also be new tank shyness ( similar to kindergarten students first week of school)
It is Flasher as Melenarus is bright blue /green

It died. I haven’t seen an aggression and it continued to get worse after I put it in a tank by itself. Who knows.
