Hello!
I went in search of a yellow tang and I happened to walk in just as someone had left a yellow tang from their tank for store credit. The store wasn’t going to put him for resale for obvious reasons but didn’t want to end him because despite his physical condition, he seemed healthy. So they offered to give him to me for free and I couldn’t turn down trying to rescue him.
They said the person brought him in with a huge maroon clown and thought maybe there was a lot of bullying going on. I’m thinking I’ve got some HLLE instead.
What do you think?
This morning he is picking the rocks all over and eating food soaked in selcon and other Vitamins. Will try to put him on nori soon after he settles. I plan on pulling him to a hospital tank and seeing what I can do, but my tank has another fish finishing quarantine for my main display. So he’s in our 34g for temporary home.

You have both (HLLE and aggresion)
Water quality and diet will play a key

Foods at minimum:

Nori seaweed basted with garlic extract
LRS Herbivore diet
mysis shrimp
Formula 2 flake and frozen
Sm Plankton
Sprirulina brine shrimp
Hikari Vegi diet

Add selcon vitamins and Garlic extract on alternating days

The good news is despite looking like death, he’s hardy and eating up a storm. We have a newish 34g tank with a hair algae problem that I threw him in before my hospital tank is done and he’s active and hungry. He’s going to town on the hair algae and eating vitamin soaked foods. Hasn’t touched the nori but I’m sure it’s just time. I have a feeling he hasn’t seen Nori in a long time.

I have never seen this before. Can't believe he didn't fight back. I would have thought a tang wins vs a clown

That's how yellow tangs show severe HLLE - their fins erode like that. I don't know why, and I've never seen that in other fish with HLLE, even other zebrasoma tangs. You might get some stabilization of this, but the fins won't grow back completely. Thanks for saving it!

Dang! Ty gj for trying to bring this little guy back.
Would it be better to place in a low flow qt hospital tank or give more regular tank flow and tank life? To try and ease the normality... sucks the owner let the maroon and himself do that.
