I'm in the process of setting up a shallow reef. It's a DB 48x18x12. It will be mixed reef to make it flowing . The look down view on shallow reefs is pretty amazing. I want to capitalize on that.

Reefscaping is still in the works. Haven't fully figured out what I want to do. I do know it will be a fine sand bed.

I need some suggestions for fish. A new tank is like moving into a new house. Buying that first piece of furniture is so hard to do!

I don't want to screen the top, so no jumpers or fish that spook.

I've thought about a haram of clowns or anthias. An all wrasse setup maybe. I've also thought about small tangs or a mixed bag of different fish and colors.

Anybody have suggestions?

Any fish is capable of jumping, but wrasses are much more likely to jump than many others.

Anthias and clowns are better choices.

Tangs will quickly outgrow your tank, I would encourage going a different route.

I'll be setting up the same exact tank in the coming weeks as an sps grow out tank.

The fish I'll be adding as follows:
2 clowns
melanurus wrasse or coris wrasse
whitetail bristletooth tang

The tang will be bought as a baby to help to control algae in the new tank. As he grows and the tank becomes more established it will be transferred to my display.

Agree with the above though, I think anthias would be a good choice for your tank.

Mine will be a grow out like yours under the guise of a shallow reef so my wife stays interested.

I have a display as well if something outgrows the tank.

One of my friends bought a tank full of Proaquatixs designer clowns at MACNA. I was thinking about just getting 10 or so of those, but I haven't had a haram of clowns before. Not sure how that would work out. Thoughts?
