Tank is a 38g lagoon that is sitting at a mixed reef now but quickly leaning SPS dominant. I currently have a Nero 5 on the right hand side flowing across the front and a jabao sow-8 on the left hand side, similar elevation to the Nero blowing across the back of the tank. The flow in the tank is good but I want more random, indirect flow going on so was thinking about adding a gyre putting it center right hand side and maybe moving the Nero down and to the back so it would basically be blowing at and underneath the jabao, which would be blowing towards the Nero and the gyre and the gyre would be blowing across the top of the scape, maybe slightly placed forward instead of dead center? Sorry if that’s confusing but like I said just wanting to get more random flow throughout the tank

Can you post pictures of your tank and where your pumps are currently? It helps to have an idea of how the rockwork is working, etc.

Thanks ~

I'd put another power head up top and point at one across the tank again, with both aimed toward the surface and each other but not directly at each other across the back. If you put a straight line through the shaft of both power heads, the lines should hit maybe an inch to the side of the opposing powerhead's edge without the streams actually crossing. That should create some more turbulent flow for you - particularly if the pumps have a controller with varying speeds. It's a nice-looking tank, and it seems pretty open :)

As to the gyre - they are great too - but much more of a maintenance pita...

So essentially your saying place another powerhead on same side as my Nero but to the back of the scape blowing across towards the jebao pump?

Yeh - and if at least one of them osilates intensity it should cause a vortex of current to move around back and forth creating semi chaotic flow without blasting anything directly.
