Flow Issue for my tank

Hi All!

I'm looking for some suggestions on what flow makers I should use for my tank. Ive been fighting detritus in my tank and also speakign with my LFS about my tank and how its built up algae on the sand bed and even on the rocks they are suggesting my issue is mainly flow and current within the tank.

I have a very TALL 20Gallon that I bought 2x Hydor Nanos 400gph models. I also have a HOB filter pushing some flow to the front and down..but I am beginnign to think I definitely do not have enough flow int he tank..

Any suggestions on a brand/model? What I should do to increase flow and just make the tank all around better? attached are some images to show what my tank looks like and the condition it was in.

I was also looking into a suggested wave maker such as this: Amazon product

however im not sure if this is the right piece for my build. I definitley would like to not have to buy something else again so would rather some general consensus and direction on something..

A tank that shape would probably benefit from a gyre pump or 2. Maxspect seem to be highly recommend but I have no experience with them. I like Tunze nanostreams and turbelle powerheads.

Thanks for the information and suggestions, I'm definitely going to add them to my list of research for sure. Any suggestion on placement options for stuff like this?

You'll have to experiment to see what works best for the tank. In my tank i have 3 powerheads pointing up one in the middle and two RFG on each end of the return. But my tank is a 150. With the gyres you should get good results with them near the top hitting the opposite wall and flowing down across the sand.

I was going to get Gyres in my tank (203g 48x39x25) until I heard of the maintenance they need. However, this may be a good fit for your tank, as the positive trade off is their versatility. Just keep up on keeping them clean and they could be the answer you're looking for. For me, I have options due to the dimensions of my future tank.

Interesting thought, yeah I was slowly thinking that maybe the Gyres would be good for my tank now that i start to do more research. Do you think the "budget" hyyger would do fine or should i just spend the money for the Maxspect?
