We changed out aquascape around to improve flow. We cannot keep most sps alive and im pretty sure it is due to flow and the amount of detritus laying around causing excessive nutrients. Anyway i have tried dropping pellets in since we changed everything to see what the flow pattern is and the fish eat them before they get halfway across the tank. Tank is a custom built 120...4ft x 18" x 24" tall. The overflow is curved along the back wall and has 2 returns at the top that stick straight out and 2 lower down that are adjustable and we have them turned in opposite directions. The return pump is a blueline return pump that says 45L/min...it came with the tank which we have had set up for about 1 1/2yrs. 20L sump with a reef octopus skimmer, waterfall ats, rock rubble and chaeto. Lighting is two of the black box leds hung about 10" off the water. The powerhead is a RW 8 and im pretty sure we need another and it is set to W1 at 100% on the dial and 5 of the green dots lit up on speed. I still dont think we have enough flow because i can still blow a bunch of stuff off the rocks. Any suggestions on adding another powerhead and placement to try to eliminate dead spots. I attached pics of the tank before we changed the rocks around, how it is now and a very bad drawing of the return nozzels and powerhead. Ignore the probably dead sps skeletons that i am hoping will somehow come back. Lps and softies donreally well. Also going to add carbon as soon as it is delivered in case i have softies releasing toxins that are killing the sps. Tia for any help or suggestions...

I'm guessing that pump is good to flow half or less of a tank that size. Definitely your issue with hard coral.....probably most coral.

I would look into a Tunze stream or nanostream to compliment it - anything up to and including a model 6105 would be fine - or sell the RW and get a complete set of Tunze pumps. (If budget is the issue, look out on the Used forum here on R2R as they are bought and sold quite frequentlty, like most pumps. Don't buy cheap pumps instead. IMO.)

Let me know if you want more details, but that should at least get you started! :) (Go subscribe to the Used forum and post on "Wanted To Buy" as well! :))
