Fluorine and fluoride

I just wanna ask a basic question is fluorine and fluoride the same I’ve got an ICP test back saying I am low very low on fluoride. I have got some fluorine here if are they basically the same? Thanks

They are definitely not the same. Are you sure you have Flourine? Is this an aquarium product of some sort?

The reason I ask is Flourine (F2) is a gas at room temp and pretty nasty stuff. My wife is a lab manager at a university and that stuff is kept behind lock and key inside her locked storeroom.

Flouride (F-) however is the form we get in toothpaste and such.

Fluorine is the name of the chemical element abbreviated with F.
Fluoride is the name of the fluorine-ion abbreviated with F-.
Fluorine is present in seawater in the form of fluoride.

The name used on the bottle is perfectly fine.

These suppliers sell a product to add fluorine to the water in a reef tank. The product contains fluorine in the form of fluoride. A fluoride salt dissolved in water. You could DIY this using sodium fluoride for instance.

I didn’t realise I’ve picked up fluorine not fluoride
