Hello, My fluval filter comes with this green phosphate removing pad. I’ve always struggled to keep corals alive and it’s almost like i’ve tried everything and nothing has ever worked for months and months. Now looking into it i read that those phosphate removing pads might be the reason for this? I honestly have no clue and I was just wondering if anyone has any information on this.

Do not randomly use anything to remove phosphate unless you feel your phosphate is too high. There are many any different recommendations on what levels are preferred but i have coral in different tanks with PO4 levels ranging from 0.03 - 0.9 without issues.
Here's some good info from an expert.

What is your current phosphate level? If corals are not growing for so long, I would start with the lighting, its the most important thing for coral growth. What kind of light do you have? Should also be some measurable phosphate and nitrate, and should be some flow.

I believe my flow is good, but i have like an api test kit for phosphate and nitrate which i heard aren’t the best but my levels are around 0.50 ppm for phosphates and 10 ppm for nitrate. For lights i have 2 reef days from orphek and 1 blue plus in the middle of those. I feel like it could also be lighting but i feel like ive tried everything with my lights including just leaving them put for a while. I get the desired par with my lights just fine and i have tried ramping up lights over 10 days, 5 days, and right now i have my lights around half of
the power just because i dont want to kill the corals
