Is Nemo struggling with his swimming or is this a normal swimming pattern?

Hi, I’ve joined the site today and have been asked to about creating a build thread, and I think it would be a really fun idea! So i figured I’ll keep you all up to date with the progress!

Day 1:
Tank arrived! Can’t wait to fill this with water, sand, and rocks!

Day 2: Sand and water are filled, salinity is a bit high, so in my next water change, I’ll just have to fill with freshwater. The nitrogen cycle has yet to start, according to my tests, but I’m sure the die off of live rocks should help.

Normal swim pattern! Clowns are super wierd in my experience you will know something is wrong, labored gasps side swimming for long periods sitting on sanded etc etc. Lookin good!

I just added the royal gramma. His name is Scuba.

He is clearly stressed, but he waited until feeding to steal the firefish’s cave!
are they gonna fight?

Meanwhile, as the firefish has regressed to his unhealthily stressed state, Scuba is enjoying his new home.
Question- currently he darts away every time I go to look at him. Will this eventually change? Also, how can I get him to give up the territory so my firefish is happy again? Scuba has looked at other rocks but seems uninterested.

It seems the dispute for the rock has ended and the gramma moved elsewhere. He has a white spot above his eye that I fear could be ich. I cannot get a good look at him, but I will monitor the tank. By the way I kept typing Scuba as his name when I meant to type Snorkle. (Silly me. ;Facepalm)
His name is Snorkle.
He’s also grown comfortable with the tank and his tankmates, just not with me yet.

I mean, he was in a tank with a moray eel, so I’d expect him to behave rather skittish.

I have three fish currently. I had gotten a sharknose goby but immediately returned it because it had ich. I’m still planning on getting one just from a different store.
The basslet has been much more aggressive than I’d’ve expected, he’s been tormenting my firefish for his territory. He’s been a headache. I’ll have to get another rock to end this conflict.

cryptocarion is a disease likely to show up in new reefs to the tune of 80% white dots on faces soon

need a plan for the ich, to prevent. nice strong cycle though, and happy fish.

even if you handle the ich there are other diseases that ich treatments won't prevent, it seems today's best/only option is to run fallow + only introduce quarantined and treated fish back into the tank, the disease forum here has all the timing and options for it:

the main takeaway is no fish for eighty days, then the ones you add cant come from the store directly to the tank or all the wait is undone.

you can still run everything other than fish, though, during fallow. the bacteria does not die off on rocks with lack of fish, the same bacteria are there with or without fish. its why your system didnt recycle when you added fish, though you started with none.

Congrats on your build. I have the same exact tank and it’s four months old.

I posted a forum on the disease page too:
Also, here are some pictures. Nothing too bad so far, except the firefish having his fins clamped again.

My guess is that stress is not helping, I would pull the gramma.
And do what with it? The store won’t take it back, I have no backup tanks, and there’s no one who would take it.
Also, the firefish got his new home back, and the gramma gets along with everyone. That’s no longer the issue. All the fish are acting fine, I just know how quickly these things go south.
