1. Do you keep a clam?
- Yes, currently 6
2. What type of clam is it?
- 2 Derasas, 1 Maxima, 1 Crocea, and 2 Squamosas
3. How long have you had it?
- I just set these up as part of my system so oldest is only 1 year but I've kept some for 8 years in the past.
4. Where do you have it placed in your tank?
- In a 12g Mr Aqua rimless plumbed into my 420g system with ceramic tiles under a bed of TLF Reborn media.
Lit by Maxspect R420R 15,000K 8" above the water line- currently running the Preset#1 lighting schedule and color mix. They seem to like the daylight better and open up fully during the morning hours and are more shut when the lighting is more blue at night time. I also run a pretty long light period that is over 8 hours.
Currently 3,2 Squamosas and one Maxima. The for two years the Squamosas for about six months I get good growth on all of them. All sitting high in the reef structure with High intensity light on then also high levels of Ca,Mg and Alk and nitrates not at 0.
No this is not my clam. I saw this clam in Palau last year. Over 6'.It's CLAM time whoaaaaa.......

Ok that was dumb but I do have some questions for you! I have a clam coming tomorrow, first for the "new" tank and it got me thinking about how many are actually currently keeping a clam.

Got a racoon butterfly today, spent two hours breaking down the rock work to catch it, apparently it will nip at anything. My softies, my lps and sps, but worse of all my sweet little Roger the squammy. No clam here. Flame Angel won't allow it.
Good question. I usually get a spawn every year during the summer months with no issues, only happy corals. I wouldn't even care when I came home to cloudy tank during the summer months I just figured it was business as usual. However this year I had an epic spawning event that lasted for a week and a day, every 15 minutes from 1pm to 7pm everyday. My tank wasn't so happy after this. Nothing died, but I did get some algae and cyano.
Here is a video from the first day it started.
