I was wanting some recommendations for which fuge light for growing Chaeto in a twenty four inch square fuge? Thanks, Reefers!
Don’t over think this. 5500 K LED spot light and clamp on holder.

The one from Home Depot?
Exactly.

I am using two to illuminate two kitty litter buckets filled with Ulva. Heads up though on possible trace element depletion. I have to dose Chaeto Gro or else the Ulva peters out. Right now, the Ulva is doubling in size every week (1.5 liters becomes 3 liters). Lights are about 4-6 inches above the water surface and on 12 hours per day. You’ll have to figure out how much Cheato likes though.

I haven’t entered this design into any beauty contests yet. You will be able to glean some algae growing parameters. Points of interest in first photo

Water from sump flows into upper bucket, flows into lower bucket and back to sump.

Flood light clamped about 6 inches from top of water. Flood light intensity equivalent to 100-120 watt spotlight.

Plastic screen prevents Ulva pieces clogging bulkhead drain.

Second photo shows bucket internal design. I used a plastic screen to keep the Ulva near the water surface. The depth is about three inches. Next time I use a shallower container :) The points of interest here: shallow water, large surface area to expose all the algae to bright light and about 1.5 liters of Ulva will fill the entire growing volume.

With a little effort you could make a pretty version of this algae reactor.

I use one of the cheap grow lights from Amazon. It was just over $30 and does a great job. I've never seen a reason to spend a lot on a refugium light.
