Hello, I plan on using gate valves to separate separate tank systems because they are all linked to one single sump. I however only have 1 tank for now but would like to add more in the future. Because i would have to plan plumbing ahead of time, would a gate valve stop all water from exiting one side or would there still be a small trickle?

a gate valve properly working can close water tight.

It would stop all as long as the valve is clean. You would have to periodically clean it to prevent any trickling. Maybe once or twice a year.
