Hello, I just got the geekpure 3 stage ro stystem(im a teen so..) and idk if my parents will really allow me to drill into the water pipes on a sink, so can I install it on a faucet(the faucet is more like a hollow screw, it has threads at the end of it) instead of drilling into a pipe? and are there any easier and less destructive ways to installing one?
thanks,
stewy14

Depends where your putting it. If you have room in the laundry room, just add a splitter, probably NPT, after the faucet the washing machines cold water line is plumbed to. If it’s in a bathroom or something they also make FIP splitters. Either way there is no need for cutting or drilling. You just need to know the thread pitch and get a splitter and a 1/4” adapter.

WAIT, i found something, would a fill hose work? if I connected it to the sink, then to the ro, would that work? and since it is ro and not rodi, can I just instantly put the water into the tank?(i have dry reef, bacteria, instant ocean sea salt, arag alive special grade reef sand) or do I have to do something to it

You probably want a reservoir and float switch so you can have water on hand. Otherwise you will spend hours filling your tank assuming you do water changes. If you don’t do water changes then you could get away with just filling a 5 gallon jerry can every so often and storing it for top-off.

ill probably just keep checking the amount of water, or just do some calcs of how fast it can fill a 5gal homedepot bucket

I have a 15 gallon system. I also didn't want to permanently install an RODI right now. I fill two 7 gallon containers from Walmart, use one for my ATO, and the other I use to mix water for water changes. I just plug it into the garden hose and fill that 7 gallon jug every two weeks.

If you have a backyard, this is the course of action I would recommend. You should consider buying a DI canister to throw on after the RO unit down the road.

My TDS is 20 and lower in summer 11. So I need a DI system added? We have some of the cleanest tap water in the world. I just want to remove any possible contaminants sand I feel like this system may suffice?

I just started another aquarium I have 3 now and have been using distilled store bought but this one will have no corals in it only fish and macro. I actually heard macro grows faster with tap water? I don’t know.

u need to get new filters!!!

YES YOU DO!!
20 is high
u need 0
That’s without RO. I heard anything under 300 tds is fine for FOWLR. I’ve watched many people with higher TDS succeed. I mean, how many people had RODI in the 60’s? Let’s be honest. Is it really necessary for hardy fish with macro algae? I added a pulsing Xenia into the 20 tds water and it’s opened pulsing and looks great…. I read people had great experiences with Xenia and tap water (they like not pristine water) apparently?

I’m adding green chromis which are apparently hardy.

People here from the greater Vancouver area claim success without RO or RODI…

I mean, really what is the threat if the fish are fine and even a coral is ok? Are we perhaps over thinking? Maybe that’s why dinos have taken over the hobby, we make things too clean and don’t believe hardy fish and corals can adapt?

That’s a nice argument right there! Except the 60’s part, nobody was keeping live coral back then
@Randy Holmes-Farley u wanna chip in? This is interesting :)

Your right I believe reefing began in the early 80’s. Still, people had corals in what I would assume was tap water. And I’m also going to assume tap water wasn’t as closely monitored back then as it is now :) I think when talking about hard corals and LPS i think that’s when you need to monitor more.

For soft corals, I feel like it wouldn’t be as much of an issue?

I have algae and I use store bought distilled water and run low on nutrients.

I mean, I think it’s really hit and miss. I started the 20 gallon as a grow out for caulerpa macro (blade algae) and it was growing insanely fast in the tap water compared to distilled water. I had some brown slime algae on glass, I also have that in one of my distilled water only aquarium yet the other has none.

It’s odd isn’t it!?

I saw that kaveman has a saltwater with tap water.

I am also in Vancouver BC and I use tap water for my 40 gallon breeder. I have macroalgae, LPS, and softies. No problem.

ik this is way back, but how did you figure this out? i have the same problem :(

the input tube fit perfectly into a hose pipe we had laying around, so I put it into that, and connected it to a basement tap which is used for the washing machine(which has hose screws onto it) and that works perfect, just rmbr to disconnect the hose pipe from the tap when u done :D
