Wantanabe angel. Love the script "A" on her head. Expected her to turn male but I've had her over a year and though her streamers are getting really long she is showing no color changes of a male.

Nice looking fish.
I've been told that the swallowtail angelfish tend to go female. So if you have a single male fish, it may change to female.

Funny, I heard the opposite. Female will turn to male.

Here's an excerpt from a conversation I had discussing Genicanthus angelfishes:
Some Genicanthus never change in captivity and its not uncommon for males to revert back to females for some odd reason. This happens with G. bellus and G. semifasciatus often, and it’s a mystery to me as to why it’s the opposite of wrasse and Anthias. Male Genicanthus lamarck don’t look that much different than females other than subtle coloration differences, more black and thicker bars, and a much more pronounced lyretail.
When I read your response, I thought you may have been thinking about wrasses and the anthias species as well since they are more prominent in the hobby.
And since the OP wanted pictures, here's one of my female from when I first added her to my system and she was much smaller.

My understanding is that they can go either way and there's no way to predict what will happen. I just was hoping my Watanabe would change to male. Even if she doesn't she's a beautiful fish just like she is.
Do long streamers go with age or are they related to gender? Mine is getting really nice streamers, which is what got me thinking she might change to male.

Bellus Angelfish, Ornate Angelfish - Genicanthus bellus
I know a local who have a Bellus in a 75. They only have one with limited rock work, so they have proportionally a large amount of swim space. Most people I think would recommend 100 gallon + though. But the local I know has had good success, going on 3 yrs now with it, also has incredible husbandry. If space is an issue, maybe consider a smaller species, such as the watanabe, which is the smallest of the genicanthus. I feel you though. I love these angels and have decided to upgrade my tank with having a pair as my prize fish.

My old 120 . It's a throw back pic . Digital camera's didn't exist yet or were new to the market .
My female Bellus angel I had for 5 years . It is by my old blue dot gigas . I broke down a 100 to go to a 70 cube . I took her to a buddies pet store . He put her in a 240 and became the queen fish of the tank . She eventually turned into a he with no other male around .
My buddy would never sell him . I asked why ? He stated when he was a she killed a lot of expensive fish so her price went up everytime she bullied or killed another fish . They are not as passive as you think .

Thank you! The male is approx 6.5 inches and his ladies are 4.5 inches.
