i got an idea.....how about we say F-IT and pull ALL our troops out and save lifes of our soilders so no more 18an up year olds die WAY to young!

First off, it could be said that more people would die without our intervention. Secondly... anyone enlisting in the military knows full well what they are getting into, it's part of being a soldier.

And as far as I'm concerned... as long as I am driving a working car, have healthcare, a job and a home... then we have a perfectly fine economy. (if our economy actually "sucked" then this hobby wouldn't exist for us)

As the most powerful country in the world, I think it is our obligation to come to the rescue of our allies, whenever they ask for it. We are not France.

First of all I don't think we are as powerful as we think. But regardless, what good is going out and rescuing everyone else if everything in our backyard is going to crap. I don't think that we should completely stop helping out the rest of the world but come one, we are in a bit of a crisis at the moment so instead of spending billions of dollars rebuilding other countries and reestablishing their government, how about spending some of that money to rebuild our own country. My job is to help others but I know that my family comes before anyone else's. So America needs to come first, then the rest of the world.

Sometimes I wonder if the powers that be have forgotten about this country. we have homeless people, starving kids, unemployment that is the highest in 20 years, gas and food higher than it has ever been....

WOW, such isolationist views on here.....We tried that once and it lead to a world war much larger then any one of has seen or was alive at the time. We as a "super power" have put ourselves in that position because of what we stand for and have stood for as a country for the last 250 years. If we did what you people are saying we would all be speaking German right now. These problems here at home can be fixed while we take care of our obligations to our allies. Poland today was told that Russia would put them under nuclear threat just for signing the missile defense pact. Guess what? They signed it anyway, if they can sign an agreement with the U.S. while being threatened by the New Soviet government of being nuked I say that is the kinda people we need on our side. It is easy to say we we shouldn't help anyone out that is outside our boarders, but character and leadership is defined by helping those that need it, in sacrifice of the issues going on at home....That is what has defined us as a nation for the last 250 years and why the rest of the world looks up to us....You can read the liberal news media about how everyone hates us, but offer them a free ticket to the U.S and see how long it takes for them to get on the plane.

Georgia should have been made a member of N.A.T.O but the wimps in Europe didn't want to "upset" Russia. Why? Russia has them over a oil barrel right now and if Russia turns the spicket off they are going to be hurting.....See that is the difference between our culture and theirs. We come in and help no matter what is going on at home and the issues we have, while they take the position if it isn't effecting us then we don't want to get involved can you say Dar-fur? Just like Bosnia situation, how many 1000s of people had to die in German style concentration camps before any of the European countries did a dang thing, they waited till we made a move and you can't sure as hell call on the U.N to do anything as that org is a joke and has no power to make any threats of force what so ever. So who is that lone shining light on the hill? Yup the good ol' US of A. That is why they turn to us because they know we care and aren't indifferent to their suffering while at the same time suffer at home with what ever issues we have. Have we made mistakes ? Sure but the one strike sure in the hell don't wipe out 250 years of coming to the aid of the less fortunate or those that are being trampled under foot like the Georgians are right now by the new Soviet Union....So who else is it going to be left up to? Mexico?

i still think its not our place, look at the war in iraq, they didnt even want us there! i lost 3 friends bc of that stupid war. thats all it is stupid and pointless, my friends were not lost defending our freedom but defending others freedoms who did want us there and would even some times attack us! its point less to be over in iraq and pointless to help others when we need just as much if not more help then they do

I am not saying that we cut off aid to outside countries completely, but scale back some. I realize we put ourself in the position to be the world police and the global aid station, but somethings got to give. I understand the war in iraq, well, the first couple years of it anyways. But I don't think it is right that we are "forced" in to a war with a country, we go in and blow it up, then spend billions of dollars and ship over OUR resources to rebuild the same country that forced us to destroy them. Then costs of everything goes up here so we basically get triple screwed for a bunch of people that don't really even like us. Americans die, we spend loads of money to help ingrates instead of our own, we use up OUR resources, again, on a bunch of ingrates, our economy takes a hit.

You need to research this conflict a bit. Georgia started this conflict.

The region in question, South Ossetia, is a small region in Northen Georgia. They tried to separate from Georgia for ethnic reasons in the early 90s. Most of the people that live there actually have Russian citizenship.

2006, the voters of South Ossetia voted to become independent from Georgia. This passed with a margin of 98% with a massive turnout. Of course it was not recognized by the international community.

Last week, Georgia started shelling the primary city killing hundreds of civilians. In response, Russia moved in to defend the ethnically Russian people.

The ONLY reason we support Georgia is because of the oil. Like Iraq, it has absolutely nothing to do with Democracy, it has everything to do with keeping our oil safe.

I have my own issues with Russia, I don't think they are the most trustworthy. But in this case, we are clearly backing the wrong side. It really worries me that we Americans don't take the time to research issues like this before falling inline behind the war drums. This has the potential of turning into a larger war.

Personally, I'm not an isolationist. I believe in using our forces when it's justified. But in this case, it's not. We should have put our foot on Georgia and told them to keep out.

We are heading towards war with Russia I think. Now Poland is being threatened by Russia by signing the missile defense contract with us and Russia is none too pleased. I think that we don't want to have a war with them either. Wiping the floor with Iraq was one thing but I think that the commies will be a hard time for us. I guess it depends on who has our back and who joins them (China?) in their fight against the US of A.

You assume I haven't, the problem with the 98% turnout was that ethnic Georgians were not given the right to vote in that election so it rendered it invalid. Ossetians are actually a minority in South Ossetia although a large population of Ossetia do hold Russian passports. It is much more then just oil, but that territory has far greater effect on Georgia.

The largest highway between Russia and Georgia cross Ossetia and that tunnel is one of the main reasons why Russia acted so quickly because Georgia was pushing the Russians out and back in to Russia, if they would have pushed them back through the tunnel that would have made it harder for Russia to control the situation. Georgian also accuse Russia of arming and funneling cash to the separatist in Ossetia of which there is no true boarder. Ossetia is actually a bunch of intermixed villages of Ossentians and ethnic Georgians.

To have Ossetia break away and fall back into Russian control would almost be impossible due to having to move all the people out. There are reports that Russia has moved Russians into the area to increase their influence and muddy up the demographic of the population so that it would seem a majority would rather fall back under Russian rule. Which is in fact not true but a small minority as most Ossetians actually live in North Ossetia......

I never said that we should use troops, it is as of right no to delicate a situation and we have other commitments. The Bush administration over the past few months had warned the Georgian administration not to go into Ossetia with troops but they did not listen and felt that something had to be done to squash a re-surging of the separatist....
