GHL issues - lemon or reality?

I can't fathom how it can properly empty a beaker and not leave residual reagent or tank water after each test. But I don't own one and their website information is terrible.
It operates very similar to other beaker alk testers (like the alkatronic, reef factory, kamoer KH tester, etc) in the method of using a beaker plus an acid for titration. It uses a larger volume for the process than alkatronic tho which helps with reducing error in testing plus it does run rinse/drain cycles before/after tests. All these machines pretty much work the same way and use the same acid reagent, they just come in different form factors.

That fully sidesteps my point.

I understand how alk titration works and the chemistry. The point was that they have to suck water out of the bottom of a beaker, and that leaves reagent, salt, rinse whatever behind.

I addressed this point with these 2 items:
- uses a larger volume for the process than alkatronic tho which helps with reducing error
- it does run rinse/drain cycles before/after tests

these items help reduce error introduces due to effects of what you are referring to

It doesn’t change my overall point. As I said I don’t have one to do any testing with to compare accuracy with anything else,
Including the KH-D.

The chambers differ, the mixing method differs, as does the draining and the pump used for titration. So yes they are all alk titration testers, but do differ considerably.

Just for comparison for the OP. I run an aquawiz in parallel my iV. Generally they remain within 0.1dkh of each other. Aquawiz I have to refill and recalibrate every 4-5 weeks iV I just refill the reagent every 3 weeks, and haven’t recalibrated pumps or ph probe in 118 days. IMG_7414.png

To clarify, Trident is colorimetric vs ph probe based and I don’t trust the colorimetric process relative to the ph probe process.

I picked the new 2.2 doser over a new 3.0 doser because I read the 3.0 had lubrication requirements that i wanted to avoid.

My trident acm and trident np have been nearly flawless. Within standard of error when comparing to Hanna. Been running both since they launched.

That said I’m only running those. Everything else is Hydros. And if the pipe dream Maven ever makes it I’ll swap to it.

Thanks for the chart, Jeff. They track fairly well.

To the OP. I think you've a lemon. I went GHL becuase of harware reputation. I've not had any problems with dosers, every 4 months I recalibrate and they are always require very little change. You do need to go through their ticket system for complaints however, otherwise they get a bit difficult, in EU at least.

I had both as well. Ran into issues where i could not get the ACM to recalibrate to numbers in the same range as an average of numbers from Red Sea, Salifert and Hanna where Alk was consistently 1-1.5 dkh off. This is where I came to learn the difference between the ph vs colorimetric titration and now favor the ph titration method. With that, it seems I can at least troubleshoot and recalibrate to something more objective where color has quite a bit more potential to be “subjective” to a device and my experience was that I couldn’t find even a reliable correction value.

Last straw was when I found the N+P was off by .3 on PO4 and also couldn’t get that reliably accurate after recalibration and running cleaning cycles on the test vial.

I also realized that both of them fed a bad tendency to obsess over and chase numbers and that I’d be better off personally testing N&P manually as needed, alk daily, and Ca and Mg weekly.

I’m just looking for a device to test Alk once daily via the ph titration method and occasionally more frequently if needed.

I do not know if the following information will help OP or anyone else that have connection problems. When the new WiFi/LAN card was introduced I purchase one. I have try to install it in my spare profilux 4 but have run into some problems with the WiFi module in this card (and I think its the same in P4.1 and Doser 3 SA) It did connect to my network ( ASUS TUF-AX3000 V2) but as soon as I try to connect through the local webserver - it stop to work and disconnect with my network.

I play around a little and found these settings to work. The most important seems to be a fixed Channel

I am starting to get the feeling that these guys are selling us a half baked product. I am still waiting for the answer from the service guys. They want me to send it back. I refuse it’s a new product. I bought it from them. I trusted them and I demand them to send me a new one because my dozer is already connected. When I tried to install the fix according to their instruction, it made things worse the the dozer did broadcast before a Wi-Fi signal the fix failed and now the dozer is completely silent. It’s working only via a USB connection directly to a PC.. I also offered to pay for a new one provided that they will cover the cost of delivery and I will send them the broken one back once I get it connected properly via WiFi still waiting for an answer.
Funny, they spent time on the stupid lead color of the dozer box seriously?

It is probably the frustration. There is a reason why both Neptune and GHL are the longest running controller brands in our hobby. Personal bias or brand loyalty aside they are widely used and both respected. They work.

I'm not sure if GHL has any US based customer support or if everything is routed through Germany. Maybe that is part of the hold up and/or delays.

Sorry about the troubles. I am sure they will get it sorted out.

Part of the problem for some, like me is we are not living in US or Germany. GHL solution to most warranty issues is please send the items to US or Germany…
Shipping to another country is not great solution.

Using GHL as an example most of their shipments are always stuck in customs 🤔, if I ship the item who knows when I get it back and at what cost …
