GHL issues - lemon or reality?

After discovering that I purchased my GHL Doser3 SA from Sewatec and not from them, they jumped on it and bailed out telling me to talk to the seller and treat it as under warranty.
So I purchased a new device,
received it not functional.
GHL service people did not solve the issue but rather made it worse
Send me to the seller to treat it as under warranty

In EU its always the seller that is responsible for the right of complaint (warranty) and it includes defects that were present on the product upon delivery (and are assumed to have been there from the beginning if the defect becomes apparent within 1 to 3 years depending on country/regulations).

If you purchase it from Sewatec - good luck with that!

Ive had tons of GHL 2.x dosers and never had a single issue with heads slipping. Even when I didn’t do maintenance at all. I think we can all agree that wifi connectivity is not the strength of GHL (I still can’t access a 2.1 doser with GHL connect in my phone, but can access it via GHL Control Center using same IP address, and never understood why lol), but the hardware is incredibly reliable. I have a 2014 doser still on use.

The only problem I had was with a Maxi 2.1, it was a slave and one motor started stalling. GHL replaced the board at no cost.

Hope the seller honors the warranty.

I’ll be honest, it’s been challenging. The Doser 3.0 also had issues with two of its four heads right out of the box.

Just to make sure I wasn’t crazy, I used a mix of the working heads from both dosers to see whether I could get the KH Director working, and I was successful.

Regardless, I need to send both dosers back and hopefully receive another 3.0.

I get the sense they think I may be too rough with the equipment, as they asked for pictures of how I had everything set up. However, both problematic heads on the new 3.0 were slipping the very first time I tried to prime them. I also don’t see how shipping could have caused the problems since the shipping box and the unit inside both arrived looking perfect.

I’m chalking it up to being unlucky enough to receive two “off” units in a row. When the system works, it’s amazing.

Hopefully, the next unit is solid and I can finally move on.

Could you post a video here of the heads slipping? I don't see how the new 3.0 heads could slip because they don't use the same friction mechanism as in the old models.

They are stepper driven, if the stepper doesn't have enough torque to turn the head it skips steps. I do not have a video, but you can see the head chatter or momentarily or even fully stall when it happens in some cases, in others you may not see it but dosing would differ from the calibrated value.

Did you check if the Doser had the latest FW`?

Sincerely Lasse

See attached. This was about 5 minutes into service.

I did not but am not clear on how the firmware would play into a mechanical issue? You can hear the gear grinding in the video.

Same thing was my 2.1 Maxi doing. I don't know if you're handy at all, but you could try swapping the pins with other motor to see if it's the motor or the board. For example, if head #1 is working fine and the #2 is stalling, try changing the pins (connecting the #2 to #1, and viceversa). If head #1 now connected to #2 is doing the same thing, and #2 now connected to #1 is working fine, then you know is the board pins which they will replace.

I have a feeling that'd void my warranty which is the only thing saving me on this right now..

I don't think so. They sometimes ask you to troubleshoot via support, and the dosers are not sealed with a sticker, unlike the KHD, IOND or other equipment. But you can ask them if you can do it. That would save you time and money shipping it back, because you can show them what's wrong.
